Right, the time has come to think about what the hell I'm going to buy for people for various gift-giving occasions, namely birthdays but also Mother's Day and the added gift giving of going to Pommyland. And~ as always it's damn difficult to think of stuff for everyone. Plan on going into the city next Friday after uni to buy them all (no K8 cos she's one of the people I have to buy something for).
So~ I've got K8 worked out, Colin's been wanting a lava lamp for ages, so I'll see what I can do about that. Problem being that I think they're upwards of $50, which is about double what I'd like to spend. Maybe ask Mum and/or Dad to chip in. It's his 18th so it should be something special anyway. If that doesn't work tho, 'twould be nice to have something to fall back on. Look for more Bond dvds on eBay or something (because according to Mum they're not making them anymore Oo).
Sallie and Uko are about the easiest of everyone. TimTams obviously, which I won't buy for a coupla months yet, Haighs, also not to buy for a few months, uggies and~ some other typically Aussie crap that's not stereotypical. Unless you ask, you're not getting any koalas in cork-akubras wving Aussie flags. Uko showed interest in an actual akubra minus the flag-waving koala, to which I responded "Are you serious? They cost like $50!" Then found out I was underestimating by $30 to $50, so~ no akubras, sorry girls XD;; So yeah, I'll keep looking for stuff *nods*
Mum and Dad? Not got the faintest. Dad's always impossible, and Mum's decided this year that she doesn't need anymore bubble bath, which is really annoying because that's always our plan B if we can't think of anything else.
So to sum up a stupidly wordy entry: Any ideas as to what I can get Mum and Dad for their birthdays and for Mother's Day, and any extra typically-but-not-stereotypically Aussie crap for the Pommies would be very much appreciated X3

Date: Fri, Apr. 29th, 2005 03:00 pm (UTC)One day I plan to go into business with cutesy platypi wielding shotguns or something like that.
You really need to inflict Vegemite on foreign countries whenever you travel. Poms probably have Marmite to toughen them up a bit against it, but I bet they'll still hate it. (Well, if you wanted present ideas that people would -like-, you should've specified.)
I'm stewing over Mother's Day myself at the moment ... my sister and I are probably going to club together and buy Mum a decent mobile phone (and then enrol her in a two-year training course on how to operate it, probably XD) ... dunno how your Authority Figures would feel about such a ting, but anyhoo ...

Mum's already got a pretty good mobile, unfortunately. Old one, but it's never given her any problems, and if we dared give her a new one she'd curse us more than she does when a new tv/vcr/dvd/Foxtel/whatever control appears on the coffee table.
What the brother and I usually do is buy something worth $80-odd and call it a combination Mother's Day/Birthday present, because the two days are only about two weeks apart, and thinking up a sum total of four gifts within two weeks, for one person, is a bit much XD; Last year it was a huge non-stick frying pan, cos she loves cooking, and she still hasn't stopped raving about it, so I think we hit the jackpot on that one XD
Maybe we should get her a year's subscription to a cooking magazine or something, I dunno .-.

Only someone who's never contacted the stuff could think that up. Not only is it viscous, but god, the pain!
