Australia Day ~ Music Focus

Australia Day in a week~ :D I was just planning on making a single post to pimp my country on the day, but after having finished coding up the music section of it, I think that would possibly kill many people, so I'll stagger it over the days leading up instead XD As I mentioned, post the first features Aussie music :D No Kylie, Danii or Delta cos they're annoying as piss and I don't like them. Instead, you get Aussie rock like Taxiride, Powderfinger and Silverchair.
My playlist is 1178 songs long. Of those, 215 are Aussie, because goddamnit Aussie music is fantastic. I'll spare you the full 13 and a half hours, but here, have one or two songs for each of the artists (unless I'm embarassed to admit they're on the playlist). If you want more of any in particular, feel free to ask, I'm all for spreading the love :D
If you've heard any of these before, well done! You're awesome!
Do it with Madonna ~ The Androids
Only have two songs of theirs on my list, but never mind, they're fun and stupid :D
Hello ~ The Cat Empire
Embedding disabled for the actual video, see it here =/ Silly YouTube. ANYWAY. Cat Empire are also stupid and fun, and have such amazingly catchy tunes~ XD I challenge you to not be going "hhhhhello" to everyone after hearing this one. It's fabulous XD Also? Their lead singer's name is Felix. Never ceases to amuse X3
Black Fingernails, Red Wine ~ Eskimo Joe
Eskimo Joe have in the past been largely boring for my tastes, but this one here? Very different for them and they've started to do stuff that's a bit more rocky. Awesome fun song, this one :D
Sweet about Me ~ Gabriella Cilmi
Fantastically strong voice and fun songs :D
Recapturing the Vibe Restrung ~ Hilltop Hoods f. the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra
I hate rap/R&B with the fiery passion of a thousand hells. AND YET. The Hilltop Hoods are pretty bloody awesome. I don't know why. I can understand what they're saying, for the most part, cos duh, Aussie accent. Their lyrics are all about just normal stuff: "And it's all love, and it's all right, til we're all drunk, then it's all fights, then it's all over. Go home, go sleep, wake up, get sober. What a great night." The same song also mentions gin and tonics. Only an Adelaide rap group could sing about a G&T and still be cool XD
And then we come to the Hard Road Restrung album, which is pretty much all I have of theirs. They redid the whole of their most successful album, The Hard Road, with the freaking Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. GENIUS. It just works SO WELL. That's the Adelaide touch of class, there X3 The hilltop in their name is Blackwood, which is about 5 minutes that way *points* :D Yeah, I'm kinda patriotic, have you noticed?
Holy Grail ~ Hunters and Collectors
ABSOLUTE CLASSIC. I can't for the life of me find a decent YouTube of it, tho, so you'll have to deal with this muffled version. Suffice to say, tho, that the guitar riff in this song is known by eeeevery person in the country and, for those who follow the sport, is synonymous with footy. The holy grail is, of course, the AFL Grand Final trophy X) (It wasn't actually WRITTEN to be, but it's definitely become a footy song X3)
I Am ~ Killing Heidi
Mmm, Aussie rock <3 I need more Killing Heidi on my playlist, srsly. Heidi, btw, is the little town in country Victoria where they're from. Clearly they loved living there >>
Embedding disabled =( Fail YouTube. Here have a link instead.
Spray on Pants ~ Kisschasy
They're also awesome fun and silly X3 One of those rare bands who sing with an Aussie accent, which is always fun X) And from Adelaide! From the Hills, even! One of my workmates is friends with their drummer =3
Torn ~ Natalie Imbruglia
Because everyone knows the original, and I can't hear the song anymore without seeing the mime in my head, if not performing it myself X3 Let's face it, it's the reason the song's on the playlist at all.
These Days (live), Burn Your Name and All of the Dreamers ~ Powderfinger
Of course, of those 215 Aussie songs, Powderfinger makes up 91 of them. Again, we say, mmm Aussie rock <3 I love Powderfinger a lot. Possibly my favourite band, since Garbage hasn't come out with anything in at least 5 years. They're just SO fantastically Aussie, and I couldn't actually pick one song to post >> So here you go, have three. The more Powderfinger, the better, frankly. These Days is a classic one, performed live cos I couldn't find the actual clip on YouTube (srsly, finding anything Aussie online is nigh on impossible), and the other two are from their latest album. All of the Dreamers features their hometown of Brisbane and Burn Your Name has beautiful lyrics and a gorgeous clip. It will make you smile *^^*
Black and Gold ~ Sam Sparro
I don't know why I like this song, but it's cool :D No idea what else he sings, but this one's fun.
To the Moon and Back ~ Savage Garden
You've probably heard this one, too, being as Savage Garden is probably our most famous musical export alongside Kylie. This was my first ever rock concert :D Well, I say 'rock', this is just to differentiate it from classical music and kiddie concerts.
Drive ~ Shannon Noll
Came second in the first season of Australian Idol but don't hold that against him :< He's not half as poppy as Guy Sebastian, promise.
After All These Years ~ Silverchair
Skip the first minute and a half, it's just crowd noise. Sorry. YouTube fails still. Silverchair are awesome~ but they've gone a bit soft lately =( I sad. This is my favourite of theirs, tho <3
Get Set ~ Taxiride
More classic Aussie rock <3 I'm sure this song's old enough to be classic now. Probably accounts for the quality and lack of YouTube clips, again. But yes. Taxiride are awesome~ and another of my favourite Aussie bands. Do love.
Feels Like Woah ~ Wes Carr
Actual clip here but YouTube won't let me embed it. Anyway. Most recent Australian Idol winner, but again, don't judge him on that :< Similar sound to Shannon Noll, just good fun music you can sing loudly to :D
Duffy's Song ~ The Whitlams
I also need more Whitlams on my playlist. Another band that's so incredibly Aussie they don't try to hide their accents while singing :D I love when they do that.
Aussie music industry is pretty kickarse.
