Tax return done! This year, I think due to my pay rise back in January, I'm getting about triple back what I normally get. This, plus the aforementioned pay rise itself, almost makes up for the extra $10 a week I'm now paying because they dropped the HECS* threshold. All that research and waiting and shitting myself to get that first pay rise in five years, completely wiped out in one fell swoop. Thanks, ScoMo**.

On the plus side, my back is all but healed and my computer is fixed enough that I can function as normal. Acrobat is one version behind but I reeeeally couldn't give a shit.

* Higher Education Contribution Scheme, now actually called HELP (Higher Education Loan Program) but screw you, it was called HECS when I got it so HECS it shall remain. Prior to last Monday, you didn't have to start paying it back until you were earning at least $55k a year. Last I heard they were dropping that threshold to $50k. It's actually now $43k, so I have to start paying it back.

** Scott Morrison, current PM.

Waiting for a Sallie for package opening :D I posted it early in August, from memory, with an eta of 6-8 weeks, and it turned up yesterday, hurray!

Alsoooo I got my assessment from the Government back about my claim for money from when Flinders Street went under last year. I applied in very early June with an eta of 26.2 weeks and just laughed and forgot about it, not expecting anything until roughly Christmas. While I was away in Sydney, (or more accurately, Ballira by that point, I think) I got a call asking for a thing to prove my beginning of employment date, which I did the Monday I got back, and on the Tuesday got the email back :D

So, the administrators had just told me about my annual leave, which was about $1500 that tbh I wasn't expecting to see a cent of, seeing how administrators work. So when I found out about this Government thing about 3 months ago and started filling out that form, it also mentioned payment in lieu of notice. As a full-time employee I'm supposed to get two weeks' notice before my employment is terminated. I didn't get 10 minutes notice, so that two weeks of pay there is something the administrators conveniently left out =| But Government did not! So that brings me up to about $3200! FINALLY! Well and truly pays for Sydney, or a new tv perhaps, the garden... basically it's 3k I was never expecting to see, which I'll be getting in about 2-ish weeks, from the sounds of it.

CAN HAS A SALLIE YAAAAY.

Hi,

I'm interested in your Lego paradisa collection.
Would you be interested in selling it as a lot?
I'm happy to offer you $400 for all the sets including postage to Sydney.

Let me know,

BACKPAY *rolls in it* Group certificate (hah I remembered the name of it) should be in my hot little hands by the end of the week, then I'll have all the things I need to do tax return and I get MORE MONEY which should have already been mine but isn't.

Meanwhile, the video part of the lemony lamb is encoding :D This takes for sodding ever. An hour to export a 5 minute video, it reckons. And before anyone asks how big this thing is going to be, it's using the Youtube SD Widescreen preset, so shouldn't be too big at all. Just working from massive files, I guess.

I gave up on the html. People with IE can just upgrade already.

Thiiiiiings.

Annual Review

Wed, May. 30th, 2012 09:33 pm
annarti: (this will take some thinking)
The crap:
  • 5% pay rise, if that.

    The good:
  • GRAPHIC DESIGN. They want me to be near-enough full time graphic design this time next year.
  • In relation to this, more serious training will be happening over the next months.
  • Also, less admin. Either accountant-boss or (they're planning) a new admin person will take over the vast majority of it.
  • MORE GRAPHIC DESIGN.
  • In the next 3-6 months, stemming from the above, another salary review will happen.
  • Did I mention the more graphic design? HELL YEAH BABY.

Does the good outweigh the bad? I think so. The basic theme is that designer-boss's Big Thing when the two of them took over at the beginning of the year, is that he wants to build a design team. He's seen the sort of stuff my workmate and I do and really wants to let us actually use those skills, but because we're bogged down in so much sodding admin and customer service, we just don't have the time to. Hence the prospect of getting in an actual trained admin person, which they'll start properly looking at after the upcoming TAFE* busy period. AND THEN. The salary review again, and the design~ and the awesome.

So basically, I should just have to weather the TAFE storm and then some real shit starts happening. God I can't wait. During the busy period at the beginning of semester (February and June) it is a NIGHTMARE. I can spend literally my whole day, from 8:30 to 4:30, doing nothing but load TAFE jobs. I'm not exaggerating when I say people ringing up saying 'where's my job? I want my job. Is my job done yet?' can take up 2, maybe 3 hours of my day. Half the time it was delivered a week ago and they haven't looked hard enough.

Anyway, back on topic! I've learned that the last couple of months, as I've been getting more design work, they've actually been testing me. Not so much my creativity, but more the chucking stuff on my desk and seeing how I handle it. I guess the test is obvious now I think back, but they reckon I'm awesome :D

'So if Anna was doing the sort of stuff she's doing now full time, what do you reckon she should be on?'
'[Pretty much what she's asking for], easy.'
    'See? No hesitation.'

SO BASICALLY. With the back-paying, the next few months effectively put me at aaaalmost where I was asking, and then after TAFE's done for those next few months and we get an admin person (or I offload half my admin to accountant-boss) I DO get pretty much what I was asking.

SO I THINK A WIN. Based on bosses delivering as promised, but I think that's a fairly safe bet to make. It may take a little longer than that, but I know designer-boss has always wanted to have design form a bigger part of what our company does, especially with three designers already employed. And I know accountant-boss has always wanted someone actually, y'know, trained in admin to do the admin. GENIUS. So yes. Weather TAFE, design shit, get paid for designing shit. I LIKE IT.

This time next year, I'll be a near-as full-time graphic designer looking for a house to buy. JUST WATCH ME.

    * Just for those not in Australia, TAFE is government-run tertiary education that basically teaches jobs. Mechanics, food and cookery, building, hospitality training, carpentry, hair and beauty, electricians, all those sorts of... hands-on, trade-type jobs, I guess, are taught at TAFE.

Adobe CS6 cracked, finally :D Annual review scheduled for Tuesday :DD Crows anticipation building~ go boys <3

So nervous for annual review. I know I shouldn't be, really, because I'll be getting something from it, it's just a question of having the guts to push for what I know I deserve. It's a big jump! And I think I can be reasonably confident my bosses won't be expecting me to ask for it. I imagine they're expecting it to be a pretty easy conversation--well done Anna, yes you've done well, been here two years, role changing to be [blah], here, have an extra 5%. They won't be expecting me to whack my printouts on the table and tell them 5% will just barely bring me into data entry territory and that really I'd like 60% thank you.

SO NERVY. How do you approach that particular topic? Let the bosses bring it up, drop their 5-10% on the table, then argue it? Or do I bring it up with my salary tables, drop my 60% on the table, and dare them to argue it down to 5%? I JUST DON'T KNOW maybe I should've waited for Mum and more specifically Dad to get back from Turkey. I know, I'll send him an email. They'll be up by now :D

I WANT A HOUSE. I'm SO getting this happening.

    annarti: (bring it bitches)
I've washed the car (thoroughly, including vacuuming the footwells and wiping down the centre console), cleaned the kitchen, done the washing and put it all away again, created lunch out of frying up many many chopped mushrooms, onion and garlic then mixing that with yoghurt and chives and putting it on toast, gone for two walks, and paid for rego/CTP ($797, fml).

I could say this has been a very adult weekend except I started it by going to see Puppetry of the Penis on Friday night, my first Fringe show I've actually had the organisation to go see in, like, three years. It was pretty amazing and I swear no words can describe the sheer awesome of this show. ANYTHING I SAY WILL SOUND CRASS because at the end of the day it's two blokes on stage playing with their dicks. There is no way around that. It was fabulous and I loved it :D

I also figured out the manual zoom on my camera o/ Only I somehow managed to make it take all those photos at 640x480 resolution. Who takes photos that piddly? Why is it even an option? And how the hell did I select it? I think I've got it sorted now, tho. When I go for my walk this arvo I'll take the camera again and do it PROPERLY. Only question is what to do with my old one? As I keep saying, it still works just as well as it did when I bought it... 7 years ago. I really should just chuck it but the [surname] in me keeps saying BUT IT STILL WORKS.

Anyway. I think I'm going to spend money at Amazon now because I can hide it behind the sheer volume of dollars spent on driving my car around for another year. I've also satisfied myself that Ghosts of Ascalon isn't good enough to warrant buying Edge of Destiny, so there's nothing to wait for now.

Tax lodged, wooooo government owes me money o/ First year I haven't gotten all my tax back tho, so that's annoying. Apparently I still don't actually earn enough to start paying off my HECS debt. That's... somewhat depressing.

Yay~ government's going to give me my money back. Really shoulda done this thing months ago, but eh. Such is life.

Today was the single most frustrating day at work ever. CMS, the program used for doing EVERYTHING in my job, was down for about an hour and a half from 11am, then very intermittent after that for the rest of the day. As in, it'd be working for maybe two minutes in ever ten. AND it's the last day of the month, which means everything has to be invoiced. I thankfully got most of it done on Friday, but there were still about two dozen I didn't get to. HAIR PULLY-OUTY.

On the plus side, everything for Shagna II is sorted :D Insurance is all done, for Bruce as well as Shagna II, and~ most triumphantly, NEW MUFFLERS. For $500. And oh man it sounds so much better now. I don't feel like the whole of King William Street is staring at me when the light goes green. Technically I still need to get another remote (the remote central locking isn't quite remote at the moment) but that's $83 I'll spend another day. That's not vital and can hold out at least until the next service, if I can be arsed doing it then, even. For now, tho, car spending is DONE. The only car money I'm going to be spending for the next 5,000km is on petrol. Now I can start saving again, hurray!

annarti: (a good day to be a 'narti)
This week, I've been a Real Adult >O I have:

o gotten a credit card. Or two, really. Same account, but with an AMEX and Visa card. Before you say "OMG WHY THAT WAY LIES DEBT D:" I return you with a flat stare of "not in my world it doesn't." It's for the rewards :D

o paid stamp duty and rego/CTP on Shagna II. I now have a new little green sticker in the windscreen. That sticker cost $903. OH YEAH. This is where the credit card comes in, people. I get POINTS for giving $903 to the government, not just my little green sticker that only lasts a year.

o cancelled my Visa debit card, because it was costing $5 a month and I have credit cards now so screw that. (It was previously free, but then I wasn't a student anymore. Holy crap stuff is expensive when you're not a student.)

o signed up for a new, free Visa debit card with the bank I've got the credit cards (and everything else, for that matter) with. For buying stuff online when something might be dodgy :D

o booked Shagna II in for its first service, which will happen on Monday. Again, credit card will give me points~ and stuff. God so many grudge purchases this week.

o been irritated with the floods in a whole new light because all the kangaroo in shops? It comes from sodding Queensland. So they're kind of all drowned a little bit. Why they can't shoot the roos in New South Wales, Northern Territory, Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria, I don't know. I was going to cook roo on Monday night, but now the butcher's made me sadface. Roo is going to be hard to come by and really expensive when you DO come by it. That sucks. Bloody floods.

o gotten my Crows tickets through :D This has nothing to do with being a Real Adult, but it's still cool. I paid adult prices this season, tho :D? Sometimes, it sucks not being a student.

So now I just feel like farting around on GuildWars but there's nobody to fart around with and I'm not in the mood for going it alone. Maybe I'll watch one of those 50-odd movies I downloaded in December.

Welp, Bruce has had his almost-everything fixed. Most notably the... link pins. Which were BROKEN. And they I think attach the wheels to the axle or something else relatively vital. So that's what was making the alarming and expensive sounding clunk from the front suspension area. Those on their own were $140*, then there was another bit they attached to that was $90, so all that was making the wheels wobble dangerously (which Col and I can attest to, being that the steering wheel shook when taken above about 90kph) and so the front tyres were just about bald, so THEY were $250 to replace. So that was the expensive sounding clunk done, yay.

Also had the power steering done, which has been brought to our attention but not vital for the last two services, so figured that'd be worth getting done, and~ the automatic transmission has been fixed, and~ the hole in the exhaust has been fixed.

Bringing us to a bottom line of $1070.50* \o/ Less expensive than we were expecting! And they cleaned our windscreen wiper nozzles for no cost, so that was nice of them. Cos UltraTune's in tune with me and my car.

We did not spend the $800 on the 'back end' as he called it. Apparently something's going there, but it'll be fine til the next service, so let Colin worry about that.

    * Just so you know, our dollar's not as shit as it once was. We've hit parity with the US$, so $1070.50 for us is actually a tad over $1070.50 for you now, and to the Pommy pound we're about where we used to be with the US$, so $1070.50 is about 700 quid.

SUCKED IN, AMERICA. I'm going to buy shit online, oh yeah >D

I really don't update much these days. Hrm. Must rectify that.

Last weekend was the official start of summer, as marked by 28 degrees (on Monday, but still) and, more poignantly, fish and chips from Normanville with Anna P on the beach. Course, it's currently drizzling and about 12 degrees as it's been for the past three days, but that's spring for you. It never actually DOES spring. Mostly, it's winter, then you get about three days of spring some time around mid-November, then BOOM it's 35 and summer.

But yeah, the beach was lovely~ <3 Supposed to be fining up this week, so we'll see how next weekend goes.

Tonight I have a little black dress masquerade party, so that'll be awesome :D I bought a mask last week (it has peacock feathers on it and it's green, would you expect any less?) and a little black dress yesterday. Personal opinion, it's too short to be a dress, so I'm wearing a skirt, too. There will be cam whoring.

Annnnd stuff. Yeah I don't have much goss lately.

OH. I've been reading this, which was in my massive box of books from the Shanrie <3 It's beautiful~ and I love it a lot.

And that's all I've got. I'm going to draw now :D

Yeah~ as per plan, 5 grand the paycheck after my birthday o/ Friday is Show day~ which I'll put at $100, then on Saturday I go printer and scanner shopping, as well as something for Dad for Father's Day. I wonder if there's some gimmicky iThing-related... thing that costs $10*. Probably not. I'll likely end up at Dan Murphy's and get him a bottle or three of interesting beer *shrug* See what happens.

Also, cross-posted to Facebook now because LJ's made it nice and easy, and Facebook wasn't being a pisser not logging me in, as it sometimes likes to do. Disclaimer for those reading this here: I'm still not doing Facebook, but at least you can read my shit there now? It'll email comments to me, at least.

    * Dad-imposed limit. I swear I spend more money on petrol trying to find what I'm looking for than on the actual gift most of the time.

    Thu, Jul. 22nd, 2010 10:20 pm
    annarti: (this r srs bzns)
    My Plan:
o don't buy anything ('cept grudge purchases like lunch and petrol)
o make five grand (potentially, paycheck after my birthday)
o buy a thing (probably printer, maybe scanner as well, just as long as it doesn't take me under 5 grand. I'm sadly tempted by multifunctions.)
o make ten grand (potentially November)
o sell my half of Bruce (+$2000? ish? we'll work it out)

o buy the other things (unless it takes me below ten grand. Basically this will be servicing on Bruce for $700, a car that isn't Bruce for around $4-5k and things that go beep for prices ranging from $15 to $500)
    o move out! (January 16-17)
o make fifteen grand (crap knows when this will happen. Re-evaluation will happen a few months after moving out)
o SUMMER WARDROBE! (which isn't looking so derelict as winter's was earlier, but still, fun times)
    o COMMISSIONS!
o BAROSSA! Cos by this point it'll be early autumn and they'll be fermenting wine and eee~ love the Barossa.
    o make twenty grand
o ENGLAND! For a MONTH. Or however long my annual leave will give me, but we're aiming for a month here.

Omitted because they're already paid for:
    o POWDERFINGER~ (October eee omfg)
    o ASHES~ (November, eee!)

So basically, every 5 grand, spoil myself~ then treat that 5 grand spot like it's $0. And thus concludes my next year and a half. Let's see how we go. Step one: five grand.

I know how to spend my own money, really D: I also know how to SAVE my own money. I know when I can afford something and when I can't, which is why over the past... four years I've done absolutely piss-all with my money except go once to Melbourne (MMM EXOTIC DESTINATIONS) and buy a new computer for a whole $450. I bloody know what I'm doing with my own money! I've not bought a P!nk ticket because at the time they went on sale I knew I couldn't afford it. I only spent $450 on a computer because I knew anything more was pointless and would be pushing it. I haven't gone to Sydney these holidays because I saw Cassie in Melbourne and know it's worth saving until I know I'll have cash leftover much later in the year.

Now that I FINALLY have money I'd like to spend on myself and have plenty left over, for the love of all things shiny STOP GUILT TRIPPING ME! I find something I can get excited about, after several years of not wanting to go to the BEACH because the petrol was too expensive for my pov uni student budget, and I get NOTHING but guilt tripping.

OKAY FINE I WON'T GET A LAPTOP if it means the entire family will ridicule me just because I want to, I don't know, enjoy the summer outside while I'm writing, or talk to my loves in a coffee shop before uni, or write/essay away from the cramped computer rooms at uni, or draw while watching the cricket/footy on a bigger screen and with better reception than my tv. Just because EVERYONE ELSE in the family has a laptop--two members have TWO--so that means I can use them, does it? NO NOT REALLY. You can't even be stuffed installing Office on the things! Doubtless there will be irritation if I install so much as AIM on them, too. There is ZERO personalisation I can do with the things. Look at it in a techy engineer/IT guy way if you like. I'm artsy and I like my buttons on Firefox, Thunderbird, Office (not that it's there to HAVE buttons) and such. I also like Photoshop and my tablet. And a desktop image that's not the Windows default, and Windows styles, and other pretty things.

But if all that convenience is a waste of money, and you'll ridicule and guilt trip the crap out of me if I do buy one, fine, I won't.

Guess what? A bunch of friends including Cassie are probably going to the Gold Coast in September for a weekend! Like we did to Melbourne last year only with theme parks instead of the animé con that you didn't really get the point of that time! Cheap air travel and socialising with friends, that's something you can get behind, right? Oh, I'm going to be guilt tripped for that, too? Even though it's probably half the price* of my cancelled $1000 laptop? Even though you got excited for the Melbourne thing, which was THE SAME PRICE, last September when I had considerably less money than I have now?

You are? GREAT. FINE. I JUST WON'T GET EXCITED ABOUT ANYTHING EVER.

Just how broke do you think I am? The only money I've spent these holidays has been Christmas money, for a new desk chair. My GOD I've been spoiling myself, haven't I? Maybe I don't get paid a lot, but I know how to save my own freaking money! Let me have a little enjoyment! When did this start, anyway? Guilt tripping me if I spend more than a hundred bucks in one go? You tried it on the cheap-arse but awesome new computer, too, to replace one that had been going since 2002. And the desk chair, which was purely Christmas money, to replace a chair that had been going since the mid 90s and been requiring a pillow to sit on since around 2000. And the new $75 mobile when the old one wouldn't even charge anymore and had been going since 2003.

Maybe if I just don't say anything about my plans until after the fact it'll all go a lot more smoothly. I'm sure THAT'S a healthy relationship with your parents, right there.

I never ask for money. Ever. I think I know what I'm doing with what I have.

    * Flights I just looked up, $120 return for those dates. Accommodation, for renting a house between half a dozen people, can't be more than $50 a night, so $150 there tops. Theme parks maybe $100 each, I'd guess we're going to two, so $200 there. $470 total plus say $130 to spend on food and random crap. Around about half the laptop.
