Shit is good, you guys:

I'm back at work! It's quiet, but I've got enough stuff to do to keep busy and not just sit on the ABC feed all day. Booze client has gone from two-week periods to one-month periods, which cuts the dollars in half from them, but such is life.

I've met my tiny babby niece on Thursday and she is adorable and I love her so much!

I ran in the Botanic Gardens after work today for 37 solid minutes and it was delightful!

SA has gone three consecutive days now without a new case! We're now part of the international flights repatriation thing, taking in flights and quarrantining them in hotels before they're sent home. We had two flights in today, so doubtless we'll have a bunch of new cases tomorrow(? Idk how long it takes to diagnose) but they won't be going anywhere so we coo'.

We're having a 'family dinnner party' in the not too distant future, cooking all the same stuff across our three households and then meeting up on WhatsApp video chat. Bearing in mind the new parents, we're mostly going premade stuff from the supermarket, with a filet mignon on the barbie (or on the Le Creuset for me, in the absence of an actual barbie), so hopefully it won't be too much for the two of them. I'm excited :D

MasterChef is on! It just feels like something normal right now, which is great. Restrictions will start impacting the filming sooner or later but for now, they're serving 1200 people a barbecue and it's just normal and I love it.

On my yearly GW kick! I've been gathering together dust for anti-death consets for one particular HM dungeon, and at the same time collecting jade for Riesling's very last elite armour set. See if I manage to achieve both before I get bored and set it aside for another year.

So yeah. Feeling good right now.

SORRY NO UPDATE. Here are things I need to make posts about:

AFLW Grand Final
Media consumed (mostly Game of Thrones and Avengers: Endgame. Hoo boy big things)
New friend!
DIY shelves project

Today~ though, I triumphantly unleash the shiny new [Snapshot Henchman] onto the world! It came to my attention towards the end of last year that people still visit that site, so I instantly got embarrassed by the layout. I made that around 2008. Since then, HTML5 and CSS3 have been invented. Phones can now navigate the internet. I graduated and have been a graphic designer for 9 years. I've learned php and jQuery. For this particular incarnation, I've also learned xml and, specifically, AJAX to make the galleries. This is where you make only a bit of a page load rather than the whole thing. Each individual zone page is run off just one, zone.php, which then pulls in the queried zone name, links it to the xml and populates the whole page around it.

I'm SO STOKED with how this has come out. There are a few minor tweaks I'd like to figure out on the mobile (on my phone, at least, the address bar doesn't scroll away as you scroll down. Also I'd like the menu dropdowns to appear where you expect them to, not right at the very top of the page, which is confusing and makes you think they're not working. Similarly, an 'x' when viewing the full-size images would be nice) but these are comparatively small things that I don't care enough about to spend the rest of my weekend working out. It's a screenshot website. If you're looking at it on a phone then it's automatically a lesser experience, anyway.

I am proud :D

Allow me to get my geek on for a little bit. I've been pondering, over the course of the last month or two, the idea of getting a new computer*. Today's announcement of the GW2 release date has pretty much clinched it. HERE'S WHY )

So basically, I need (or, at least, want):
o Motherboard
o Graphics card/monitor/both???
o RAM
o Box/power supply (I'm not falling in that trap again)
o Solid state hard disk
o CPU? idk. I have no idea. I'm assuming a 4 year old CPU won't be much use in a brand new computer.

Finally, the real kicker, money. It's the end of the financial year (and god don't I know it, working admin in what is basically a retail franchise) which means three things:

o TAX RETURN. FINALLY. GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK, GOVERNMENT I DIDN'T VOTE FOR AND WISH I COULD VOTE OUT NOW.
o Pay rise comes into effect!
o Probably the biggest thing, along with the pay rise comes back-pay to February.

I haven't spent money, I mean SPENT money, since I moved out. I've bought an $80 book case, half a dozen books for about $12 each, two or three jumpers, a pair of leather gloves, and three Assassin's Creed games, on special for $20, $40 and $45 respectively. (And for those pointing out the electric frypan and wok, I got those with gift vouchers). My only genuine splurges (over $300 for each thing, omg) have been going to Sydney last year, and the Barossa this year, but I still budgeted for those things and bought sod-all in the month leading up to each thing. I've been so focused on buying a house and saving and scraping and need a deposit and bloody hell I'm bored of it.

So screw it. I'm spending money. I'm buying something awesome. I'm going to do my tax return as soon as I get my PAYG summary or whatever it's called, get all my tax back and my back-pay, and I'm going to tally it up and give a value to my brother and go BUILD ME A COMPUTER and it will be awesome.

* When my family says 'a new computer' we actually mean 'new bits combined with the old bits that still work that we will then construct into a computer.' I have an electrical engineer for a dad and a Java programmer for a brother. We don't buy 'a computer'.

annarti: (the world through the winter palette)
"No white, no snow-melt, no ice-bound lakes, just birdsong strung across a cobalt blue void."

Cos sometimes winter does that. I rode down to the beach today, which took all of 25 minutes, got myself a piece of grilled butterfish and chips for one (which, being a fish and chip shop, means two pieces of grilled butterfish and chips for a respectable-sized Italian family) that I ate on the lawn, then walked pretty much the length of said beach over the course of the next hour-ish looking for driftwood. Didn't find any, but I did get a bunch of pretty shells and rocks and a shard of mother-of-pearl so that went well.

GLORIOUS. The only way you could tell it was actually the middle of June was that nobody was in the sea except stupid dogs who'd lost their tennis balls, and all the people were rugged up in jackets and scarves. Much fish and chips on the lawn and kids running around with ice creams still happened, though.

Bummed around GW2 for about two hours when I got home, literally accomplished nothing but just ran around Divinity's... Whatever It's Called going OMG THE PRETTY. I found a sinkhole and a freaking STUNNING city garden and a little... memorial gravesite type place where there were no people and the lag was nonexistent, so that was nice. I will need moar ram for release, tho. One frame per second really doesn't make for great battle experiences. I died on a wurm :<

I've also spent $50 on skin shit to make my bacne go away. I WILL REPORT BACK. In, like, a year apparently. YEAH~ 'this time next year' seems to be coming up a lot in my plans. Looking for a house, full-time graphic design, 74kg/size 12, no more bacne, all of it is 'this time next year'. June will be a big time, apparently. GO ME.

Hot chocolate mix is going well but requires further testing. I've got the cocoa-to-sugar proportions right, just need to figure out the spices.

Now I'm going to reconnect with my formative years and watch Trigun because it's been TOO LONG.

It being nearly three weeks since last update, I am no longer infected, YAY. I hate ear infections. I know, shock of the century right there.

RIGHT SO. New layouts! Finally. On [livejournal.com profile] annarti we have the flist, calendar, day view and profile. There's also, of course, bloogum and along with that sparklies, and I don't know that they count but [livejournal.com profile] h_bee and [livejournal.com profile] yrae share bloogum's layout, and I've made a contact page there, too. Also fiddled with the Dreamwidth and Plurk but frankly Plurk's styling makes no sense whatsoever so it's mostly default colours with a picture. I have no idea how to work tumblr so that just stays with some colours. Yay? Oh, and the [livejournal.com profile] thethrai got a new layout, too, just cos.

This layout set marks the beginning of UPDATE THAT SHIT wherein I actually post. Yeah I know. I fail. I keep forgetting that people can't keep updated on my life unless I actually tell them about it, and with my net time limited to when the other side of the world is at work, this makes normal conversation tricky. SO I'm going to actually update on stuff now. At least attempt daily, even if it doesn't happen. UNTIL THEN allow me to sum up the important events since being not-infected:

Work: I have Adobe CS6 installed on my computer 8D This is super exciting because it really does mean I do actual design now. I'm working on two things either from scratch or from almost-scratch right now, and just put a shiny business card through to print last week that only had the guy's logo as a basis. I'm designing stuff! This is awesome. Also, annual review comes up in a few weeks, so PAY RISE WOOOOOOOO.

Family (or, let's be honest, wine with family): Mum and Dad have gone to Turkey for four weeks for Dad's 60th birthday (and also Mum's 58th but mostly Dad). We celebrated his birthday last Saturday. He told me to go to the fridge and get out the bottle of Krug '89, to which I snorted and expected a bottle of Omni or maybe Croser, but sure enough, fricking Krug '89. Admittedly smelt a bit like sherry but whatever, not being a connoisseur of champagne I wouldn't know what it was supposed to taste like so I thought it was amazing. AND THEN. With the steak (fillet wrapped in prosciutto), one of the three 1990 Henschke Hill of Grace bottles. Bought back in the day for $35 a bottle, now worth around $800 a bottle, I believe, or $200 a glass. I just sat smelling it for 20 minutes before I even drank any of it. Exceptional stuff <3 Stuff the Grange, Henschke is where it's at for me. That was a very special moment. I was nursing that glass all night. Ftr, no I don't think any wine is worth paying $800 for, but Dad didn't, so that's okay X)

Mother's Day: Followed on from Dad's birthday. Colin and I did a high tea for Mum, with smoked salmon crêpes and walnut/Gruyere/radish/pear/watercress finger sandwiches made by Colin, and two tarts (one pumpkin/leek/wild mushroom and one caramelised onion and bacon with parmesan sauce) made by me, then Colin's muffins (blueberry, raspberry/blueberry and raspberry.white chocolate) and my coconut scones and brownie (aka coronary special) for dessert. We basically made it all in the morning then sort of grazed on it through the afternoon. It was lovely and went well after the extravaganza the night before.

Friends: Went to see The Avengers last night with Alex. So much love. The one-liners were just brilliant, and Tony Stark is still my favourite though Hawkeye was also pretty awesome but he just doesn't have the awesome dickheadedness of Stark.

Creatives: Since being infected, just the new layout set. Now that's done I hope to have chapter 20 finished this weekend.

Gaming: I think because I was on the edge of being infected, and also the net was playing funny buggers and lagging like hell all weekend, I didn't get into the GW2 beta weekend as much as I otherwise would have. I didn't get out of the starter areas with anyone, but omg so pretty. I made my girls as per tradition, and now I'm not sure whether they'll be human or norn once the game's released. Human faces are absolutely bang on, norn seem to be a bit too soft, but Nimay's norn hair has a bum-length black braid and that is pretty hard to beat, especially when I really only see my characters from behind. Nol worked best as a human, even though his face just wasn't quite there for my tastes. Lynnlita was fail in all races, mostly because of the hair and the inability to smile. Doesn't look squat like her. Oh well, we'll see what gets added before release.

THUS CONCLUDES WOO. I swear I'll keep on top of this thing from now on. Prod me if I miss more than two days :<

My kitty (who has been named Rocky, I'm not sure if I've mentioned this on tpyo yet) is alternately chasing moths and playing with his teddy. I think you'll find this is the most adorable imagery ever, but just to add to it? He's still a kitten, so he still does the bum wiggle before he pounces.

(Also, updated with all of one picci.)

This morning:
Phone: RING RING aren't I pretty? I have a shiny ringtone and everything!
Me: Hello~
Boss: Hi, did you know you were supposed to be working today at eleven?
Clock: 11:23, bitch.
Me: ... Noooo~? oO It is Friday, right?
Boss: Yeah...
Me: I rang on Tuesday to get the roster and I was told Saturday and Sunday.
Boss: Oh. Right. Well, can you still come in?
Me: Sure! .-.
Boss: You really should have checked the roster when you were in last weekend.
Me: . . .

alsdghalksjdghak The reason I DON'T check the roster, and ring up halfway through the week, is because it's usually NOT there, AND ALSO, IT CHANGES DURING THE WEEK. WITHOUT THEM TELLING ME. AJLSDGBSLJ I can't wiiin~ D:

Yeah~ >< On the one hand, yay, money I wasn't expecting. On the other... I missed out on an hour of work because the person who told me on Tuesday didn't say a thing about today. Arg and stuff.

Completely unrelated, got Colin to help with missing drivers and codecs and whatever else, so now I can properly play DVDs and all the video files that weren't working before, woooo. Been meaning to get onto that for about a month. Yay I can watch Moulin Rouge! again <3 And also At World's End that Colin got me for Chrissy, wai!

Tue, Dec. 30th, 2008 05:49 pm
annarti: (a good day to be a 'narti)
Wow~ I'm behind in updating on stuff XD; MERRY CHRISTMAS belatedly >> I started drawing something but it's still just not happening, so just know I love you all <3

Chrissy for me was awesome~ <3 Apart from the fact that half the family wasn't in the country, but... yes. Such is life with this family XD;; Joanne in... Europe somewhere, possibly Italy on Christmas Day. Carolyn in New Zealand. Liz in Darwin, which is far enough away that it may as well be another country XD; First Christmas ever where the guy cousins have outnumbered the girls, so that was new.

Weather was... eh. It was warm, but cloudy all day, so by the end of it it was just muggy, and not exactly picturesque. Still, coulda been like today. Or the rest of freaking December. Summer my ARSE.

*ahem*

My family rules, just thought I should reiterate this. I think I came to the realisation of how WEIRD one particular aspect is about two years ago, maybe? In my family, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, EVERYONE... not one divorce. I always thought that was the norm, and pitied everyone who had crap Christmases cos they worried over whether to invite Auntie Thingie because she and Grandpa were not on good terms, stuff like that. There's never anything like that in my family. Sure, we mock Gran for having three topics of conversation (war, death and politics) but really, we love it when everyone turns up.

I seriously love my family. And the way Nanna was talking to me on Christmas Eve about how proud she was of all her grandkids... asdkjghs I'm almost tearing up again now XD;; But yes. Christmas is awesome. I love it sosomuch <3

...And now to get completely materialistic, my haul!

Colin: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End on DVD. YES it's taken us this long to actually get it, shush.
Mum: An electric toothbrush.
Dad: A BIIIIG box of Lindt chockies and $100. I totally brought the $100 on myself, instead of a thing, cos I honestly had no idea what to ask for. And now I don't know what to spend the $100 on, YAY.
Nanna: $50!
Gran: $50! NOT TALCUM POWDER!
The Foothills Contingent: Prettypretty purple beaded earrings.
The Plains Contingent: More earrings, dangly ones with little silver stars~
The Goolwa Contingent: Box of 12 Derwents. I love Derwents <3 and most of those are the ones I'm always running low on XD;
The Victor Contingent: Smaller box of Lindt Lindors~ <3

I've done well. $200 that I don't know what to do with, and I'd rather it not just get lost in the $1000 of a laptop, that's not special. Obviously no point in spending it on chocolate XD;

Moving on from Christmas, I have a new phone! Cos my old one has effectively kicked the bucket. The battery only lasts a day if I'm lucky and the charger cord has gotten very, very tetchy. Has to be in at exactly the right angle, otherwise it won't charge. So yeah, I now have one of these little thingies for $79 o/ Basic, basic little thing that still does more than my old one. FM radio which is handy, camera, also has basic internet access mostly in the form of email, but my plan (same plan, same sim, same mobile number, nobody panic) will make that ridiculously expensive cos the rest of it is so cheap, so meh. I didn't want one with internet on it anyway. Camera is dodgy but if I want to take REAL photos... then I'll use my camera, strangely enough.

Finally! GWness that I will cut because it's easier than making a new, GW-locked post: Read more... )

OKAY I'M DONE.
