Today it has been:

o 33 degrees and dry
o hailing
o not just hailing, but golf-ball hail. In ADELAIDE*
o still 31 degrees at this point
o bright sunshine again not even 20 minutes later
o more giant hail
o while it was sunny
o ALL THIS in the space of an hour and a half
o it is now humid af and still 23 degrees

Yeah climate change is ttly a myth =|

* Adelaide hail, ftr, is ball-bearing sized. It has never in my entire 31+ years been bigger than ball-bearings. GOLF BALLS WTF.

UGH I'm so over humidity. It's so humid now that the lawn at the little church yard where I have lunch is mouldy. The GRASS has MOULD growing on it. What is this madness?

For those unaware of Australian geography, Adelaide has 4000km of desert to the north-west, north and east, and only the Southern Ocean between us and Antarctica to the south. Basically our weather either comes from the desert, or from Antarctica, with not a whole lot of middle ground. If it's hot, it's dry. If it's wet, it's cold. It is not hot and wet at the same time because these things come from totally opposite directions and it FREAKS ME OUT AND MAKES THE GRASS MOULDY. Exceptions are when there's a cyclone happening around northern Australia, in which case the edge of it makes it down over the 4000km of desert and we get hot and wet at the same time, but that only lasts a day or two. This has been going for a WEEK now and I don't like it.

38, 39*, 40**, 41, 42... Just as we were thinking, well, we've had a few spikes but no holy-shit-heatwaves yet... HELLO SUMMER. Meanwhile Sydney's getting pummelled by fricking tornadoes and hailstones the size of golf balls. What the actual shit. Amazingly we're not on fire, but eh, early days yet.

I'm not going for runs right now. We get a cool change on Sunday though! Only 30, yessss. See if that sticks.

In other news, I got a hair cut yaaaaay. And a second ear piercing! Which I've been wanting to do for a while but never thought about it while I was actually at the hairdresser. Even less ouchy than I remember it being the first time around, and I don't remember it being particularly ouchy then, either. So that's cool.

It's quarter to eleven at night and it's still over 31 goddamn degrees.

* That was today's forecast, actually ended up being a touch over 41 so this bodes well.
** That's what yesterday said tomorrow's forecast was, but it's now up to 42. It was just nice how it was slowly counting up, degree by horrible degree. Now the bomsite's just decided 'nope screw it. all of the hot. aLL OF IT.'

HAH I'm not the only one who uses Maya to cheat get the perspective right.

...I have so much more exciting stuff to update on than that. I just never feel like actually typing it all out once it's done XD;

o Welcomed cousin back to Australia from the UK! She's only here for Christmas til she goes back again for New Year, aww. Big Christmas-esque lunch with her and family, followed by the most epic game of backyard cricket we've had in YEARS. Mostly we just sorta halfarse it out of tradition. No idea what made it go for an hour this time XD

o You're not the only ones who can do snow in December, bitches. DIDN'T I TELL YOU IT WAS COLD? I THINK I DID.

o Graduation was boring as all hell, I was number 29 of about 300 who walked across the stage of the Convention Centre to accept my degree. It took two hours o/ But then we went out to lunch after, which was lovely~ and tasty~ but not as good as Alphutte, where we WANTED to go but they were full.

o It's supposed to be 34 on Christmas Day. I'm dubious.

o Official move-out date is now officially 15-16 January. It was going to be this weekend, but then engagements cropped up to postpone it. Either way, Anna P's current housemate is moving out first week of January, so I'll move in the second weekend :D

o Work Christmas dinner was last weekend! Man that was fun. Jan got us balloons and we had a balloon animal/hat competition. It was unanimously decided that my 'lion' looked more like a poodle with haemorrhoids.

o We actually won a cricket match! Like, a real one, not backyard cricket! I wish we could've had that match here. Day three of the Perth Test was so much more epic than the day three at Adelaide that we went to =(

What the crap is with the tropical weather? Srsly. 27-30 degrees, sunny but humid in the morning, clouds come over around lunch time and then PISSING TORRENT OF OMFG RAIN THUNDER AND LIGHTNING at around 3:30. And did I mention humid? The carpet's going to start going mouldy soon. The South Parklands have turned into the South Wetlands and flooded Glen Osmond Road, we lost another branch off the cedar, and I'm still perfectly comfortable in slinky silk nighties.

This is so not summer D: We're surrounded by thousands of square ks of desert with a bit of sea out that way. We're supposed to be getting baked, not steamed. THIS IS WEIRD.

Also, we lost the cricket. The packet my cricket tickets came in say on the front 'History will be Made'. No shit. The Poms are going to win the Ashes on Aussie soil for the first time in about three decades. Sunday, when Anna P and I went, was fun despite the cricket! We took cold chicken and salad with Danish feta, sundried tomatoes and olives, carrot/celery sticks and dip, and other yummies :D Cricket was... we were losing by that point already. Two wickets all day, then it started pouring with rain at tea (spot on 3:30, see? TROPICAL) and there wasn't another ball bowled the rest of the day, so we came home and had a Midori splice on the balcony instead.

I keep getting reminded of various tropical holidays, mostly Bali. Can almost smell Indonesian cigarettes, it's that tropical. Wtf, Adelaide, wtf.

I had stuff planned this weekend =( Last night was going to be my town's Christmas Pageant, but that got cancelled due to a huge storm blowing up roughly an hour before it was supposed to start. Hail, torrential rain, thunder and lightning roughly every 30 seconds or so.

Then tonight was going to be Symphony under the Stars--big free outdoor concert at Elder Park put on by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and always finishing up with the 1812 Overture complete with cannons (and also fireworks). That one cancelled due to insane wind, but I wouldn't've gone even if it wasn't cancelled cos the weather's much the same as yesterday. The hilarious thing? It's actually normally on in March, but this year's was rescheduled to tonight because it was, like, 45 degrees on the night in March. Well, 45 in the day. Mighta dropped to something else stupid like 38 by the evening. YOU GET THE PICTURE.

Just. Frig. Come on, Adelaide, get it together =/ It was 43 last week! ONE DAY of spot on 30 and now we have insane thunderstorms with hail and lightning and the whole lot. Aaksdhglakshklj. If the cricket next weekend gets washed out or it's 40 degrees and therefore not worth going, I'll be SO pissed off.

Welp, plastic bags at the supermarket checkout are officially banned. Only in SA, of course, cos we get subjected to weird things like that. So now the whole state is asking, as we have been since the announcement a year ago, what the frig do we use to line our bins with now? How many plastic bags ACTUALLY just get thrown out, without being used as bin liners, as storage for dirty clothes or bathers on the way back from the beach, covering up food to keep it fresh in the fridge, stop bugs from eating it on the mantlepiece?

And apparently all the greenies are pressuring other states to take up the bag ban. NO, REST OF AUSTRALIA, DON'T DO IT. It's more stupid than the upcoming ban on incandescent light globes D: (which IS nationwide. Yeah.)

Again, I say, I didn't bloody vote for 'em. Well, Mr Rann? What do YOU line your kitchen bin with, hmm?

You know you're in Australia when:

o Leaves need to be removed from gutters in preparation for rain tomorrow.
o Special stuff needs to go on the garden so the surface tension of the soil lessens. Also in preparation for rain tomorrow.
o The subject of rain tomorrow makes the news.

And as if four months of uni holidays just isn't enough, Adelaide Cup public holiday~ HURRAH! ¬¬ Why can't our public holidays be more spread out? We have ten throughout the year, and nine of them are all in the space of six months. From the Queen's Birthday in June through to Christmas, there's only Labour Day in October =/ Adelaide Cup and Queen's Birthday we could so move to some time in spring. Not like it's her actual birthday, after all.

HI I'M BORED :D HOW ARE YOU?

...So now it's 18 degrees. It's either above 40 or below 20, ugh. YAKNOW, WEATHER GODS, SOME MIDDLE-GROUND WOULD BE REALLY NICE. SOMEWHERE AROUND 28 TO 32 WOULD BE IDEAL, REALLY.

FAILING THAT, RAIN. RAIN WOULD BE AWESOME. I THINK QUEENSLAND'S KIND OF OVER RAIN NOW.

Sakuuuuuu I got my scarf today! I love it so much~ <3 I can't wait for it to cool down so I can wear it :DDD The colours are GORGEOUS and a scarf with pockets is just an awesome idea <3! THANK YOU SO MUCH HUN! And to the Sallie for buying it for me!

OUR COOL CHANGE HAS HIT. Yes, we now have a south wind, blowing straight off the Antarctic and crossing thousands of kilometres of Southern Ocean to drop the temperature by ten degrees. It's now only 33. Poor Melbourne's in the middle of their hottest day on record hitting 46.2 I think they said on the radio? I FEEL FOR YOU, MELBOURNIANS OF THE FLIST. WE HAD THAT LAST WEEK, TOO D:

Spent most of yesterday afternoon/evening in the pool~ which was lovely, especially after dinner when the whole family was in, glass of wine/bottle of beer in hand, floating around talking about Bali, and the potential for going back there this winter. That would be lovely <3

I am so very ready to go back to uni. Like, tomorrow. If uni started again tomorrow I would be so very happy, despite it still being near-as 40 degrees*. I've got my timetable all sorted (nothing clashes! It's like that Honda ad where things just work! It's like it was staged to happen that way!) and tomorrow I'm going in to do last little end-tying things like buying a diary, getting a new sticker on my student card, finding if they have those giant wall planner thingoes in yet... uni stuff is happening! AND my classes and respective tutors are set to be made of awesome. Theodor and KC in one semester? Yes plz.

And yaknow what? I'm on holidays still for another MONTH. asdghlask I was getting stir crazy by new year, and having everything for uni sorted and therefore in my mind is making it worse~

Waaaaaant uni back now, plzkthx. Why do we still have another month, seriously? Frig.

* predicted only, of course. It'll actually hit 42 again, just watch. Today was actually quite cool, only got to 40.2. I just about had goosebumps walking outside an hour ago. I mean, it'd almost dropped into the high 20s! MADNESS!

37 on Australia Day. Yesterday was 41, today was supposed to be 41 but so far it's hit 42 even here in the Hills, tomorrow is FOURTY-FREAKING-FOUR, Friday 41, Saturday 40, Sunday 40... Monday 39, Tuesday 38. And that's as far as the forecast goes.

And yaknow what? I'M COOL THIS TIME. THANK FUCK FOR AIRCON. OH MY GOD THIS IS BLISS. IT'S FORTY-TWO DEGREES OUTSIDE AND I'M COOL.

I was going to say I could also rest easy in the knowledge that this time, the rest of the country is getting it, too, but really it only seems to be Melbourne. Everyone else is sort of puttering around the mid 30s for the next week. WEAKLINGS. Perth gets a cool change by Sunday~ so maybe we'll get it next Wednesday. We can only hope, cos that's when I want to go buy my laptop~ =DD
