Listed the Shagna, finally, so that'll go up tomorrow after it gets approved, and then I'll be on the way to becoming around $3600 richer, hopefully. Right now I'm $135 poorer. Costs a bit to list a car. I listed the old phone over the weekend, too, along with relisting the 60s lights, so cross fingers something happens there.

I'm taking a break fro the portfolio to do all that stuff that I've been putting off because of the portfolio. This weekend I did as much gardening as my excuse for a garden can take, pulling up thistles and weeds from the crappy pavers and concrete and sweeping up the dirt and dead leaves, and cut off dead bits from plants that have dead bits.

Still on the list are various computery things, start organising people for stage one of the garden and sorting out insurance for home/contents, car and health. So that's fun. Really want to beat down a good chunk of that tonight.

OH AND! On Friday I got a lovely package from [livejournal.com profile] ladylight ♥ The Christmas card's up next to the tv now, and me and notebooks, man. I can't get enough of them. I don't know what to do with half the ones I have and yet I still get excited for more, especially beautiful Kazinian birdie ones X3 Thank you so much!

AND AND! Another package arrived last week at work from my Sallie featuring roughly a million Wii games, give or take. Most excited about my first ever Zelda game and also Donkey Kong because the first one way back for the SNES holds a special place in my heart. I am so special and loved ♥!!!

I should stop being stingey and turn the aircon on.

Waiting for a Sallie for package opening :D I posted it early in August, from memory, with an eta of 6-8 weeks, and it turned up yesterday, hurray!

Alsoooo I got my assessment from the Government back about my claim for money from when Flinders Street went under last year. I applied in very early June with an eta of 26.2 weeks and just laughed and forgot about it, not expecting anything until roughly Christmas. While I was away in Sydney, (or more accurately, Ballira by that point, I think) I got a call asking for a thing to prove my beginning of employment date, which I did the Monday I got back, and on the Tuesday got the email back :D

So, the administrators had just told me about my annual leave, which was about $1500 that tbh I wasn't expecting to see a cent of, seeing how administrators work. So when I found out about this Government thing about 3 months ago and started filling out that form, it also mentioned payment in lieu of notice. As a full-time employee I'm supposed to get two weeks' notice before my employment is terminated. I didn't get 10 minutes notice, so that two weeks of pay there is something the administrators conveniently left out =| But Government did not! So that brings me up to about $3200! FINALLY! Well and truly pays for Sydney, or a new tv perhaps, the garden... basically it's 3k I was never expecting to see, which I'll be getting in about 2-ish weeks, from the sounds of it.

CAN HAS A SALLIE YAAAAY.

the questions )

30. And tell us what you like about that person as a writer and/or about one of his/her characters!

This question clearly has the actual question part of it missing, so I'm going to assume unpublished authors for this one. Unfortunately, all my favourites either have little to nothing available online to read, or haven't added to their repertoire in years, or don't have it all in one place, but I'll DO MY BEST.

First up, the amaaaazing [livejournal.com profile] ladylight, who I constantly feel privileged to have as a friend <3 I found her first on Elfwood, but as many of us from the time have done she's abandoned that account for the green pastures of LJ at [livejournal.com profile] soulfiresnippet. I love this girl's stuff a LOT. The Adventures of Of are brilliantly Pythonesque, and the more serious stuff is suitably dark and evil >3 I envy how she can get character into even the 'extras' (like the torch-bearing mobs X3). I love the scope of her worlds and, of course, the fantastic characters that inhabit them. My favourite of her characters has gotta be Lorannon, refreshingly sarcastic wood elf and~ a bit of a git. I love him <3

Next, my fabulous [livejournal.com profile] drazzi, who can pull such incredible and original worlds out of her arse in, like, two days, and they already have SO much depth and culture and awesomeness and I envy. So, so much love for my Sallie's worlds. You can get a feel for them so easily and really see just how rich they are. I love the depth of her characters and how they're never what they seem to be on the surface. You can try summing one up in a sentence, but you'll be missing a lot. My favourite switches between War and Death, again because of their depth. Death is the ultimate gentleman and, even when he's got his typically cool, polite façade on, there's always just so much more going on behind his eyes. He's one of the three written characters to have made my hands hurt. War is a git, though he does mean well. Most of the time. He's very much like the Own--complete show-off and as much a man's man as he is a lady's man. I want to hug him lots X3

And a [livejournal.com profile] shanra! Who writes kiddies in ways I could only dream of. Telyn is so adorably naive and always asking questions that older characters just wouldn't think of, and it's just gorgeous *^^* I love her~ and her goats XD Shanrie comes up with beautiful concepts, like singing being the base of a magic system, and so much thought and detail goes into the cultures that they seem both real and other-worldly at once, like there really is somewhere out there with their belief systems. I have love~ <3 Tely is probably my favourite, but Vonre is also awesome in his distinguished-gentleman-come-evil-bastard way X3

And then~ Rynnay, who I don't know personally but she's awesome. I don't even know if she's got any writing online anymore. Anyway, her characters are so much fun, and she has a fabulously evocative writing style--I'm sure the arting side of things helps with that, cos my GOD her arts are awesome. I love how real her world is, and the characters in it. You can feel their pain and everything when their hopes are crushed, and it's all very awesome. My favourite of her characters would be Cyrus, who's both an assassin AND a git, what could be better? >D

Christmas arts!

annarti: (whee~ pretty colours)
I finished my Christmas arts, and since we're going down to Victor on Christmas Eve and I'll have to put them up early anyway, I may as well do them now :D Apologies to all those with [livejournal.com profile] h_bee on their lists and have already been spammed with all six, but you get them again now >> In alphabetical order because that's the order I did them in:

For Alyssa, Lorannon in a treeeeeee.
For Cassie, Nat in the snooooow.
For Gem, Alli in the daaaaark.
For Sallie, Saxon in the forest~.
For Saku, Nelnir with the fishies~.
For Shanra, Von with a glass of wiiiiine.

Nobody complain that you haven't drawn me anything as I know you will XD I haven't ever actually done individual piccies for Christmas, and decided that this year, now I'm back in the drawing groove, was the year to do it. Picci for the whole flist may or may not be forthcoming. See what happens, but don't expect anything XD;

Merry early Christmas, all! I LOVE YOU~!

annarti: (a good day to be a 'narti)
I'm~ not very good at updating when stuff is happening, am I? XD; HERE LOOK STUFF =DD

Mum~ has broken her fibula =( When she and Dad were in Tassie last week, she slipped on a twisty knobbly tree-root-rock-and-rain combination and has basically been hoping since then. She went to the doctor today tho annnnd yes. The rest of the family is now unofficially charged with keeping Mum from doing things. THIS IS HARD because she likes going to "just get her glasses" and ends up doing the washing up. Or "just doing her own ironing" then ends up doing all of it. I managed to steal the vacuuming from her over the weekend... then found out she was taking down the washing at the same time askjdghs

Also~ over the weekend, dinner party! Which means delicious food, of course. Not that we don't normally get delicious food, but this was three courses of it X9 And also nibblies, which I've just made up again to have with mojitos. You envy. I do love our pre-dinner drinks thing we have going. Always happens on a Friday night, uuuusually on a Saturday, then any other night during the week when someone feels like a martini or experimenting with a cocktail.

And I've been working lots, which is nice because Bruce went in for his 195,000km service on Thursday. NOT ONLY BUT ALSO, he's been having an Issue. Two weeks ago, while driving Colin to work and sitting at the traffic lights, Bruce turned off =( No ugly noises or anything, just turned off, and turning the key wouldn't even make the engine turn over. So we managed to use gravity to chuck him in neutral and roll into the servo which was handily enough right there next to us. Sat there going 'well, the actual car servicing spot doesn't open til 8, what now?' for a few minutes, then tried the key again, and voila, life. Hurrah! we think. Self-fixing car issues! And off we go to work/uni.

Thennnn when Mum and Dad were in Tassie, he did it again, only this time he wouldn't start again. This was on the freeway when only Colin had the car, so he rang me up and went DDD: a bit, I sympathetically went DDD: back, and we resolved to call the RAA. So, RAA guy rocked up, charged $165 for on-the-spot membership sign-up, lifted the bonnet, got Colin to turn the key, et voila, Bruce lives. aksdghalsk my poor brother DDD: RAA guy also pointed at something in the engine and said that's what was wrong, which made us both go DDDDD: summore cos yaknow, engine issues are EXPENSIVE.

HOWEVER. Service of around $150 included, it all came to $471, so we're not too irritated. There's always SOMETHING that comes up in addition to the basic service. There'd better not be for the next one, cos the 200k is the biiiiiiig service on its own. Growl. Hate cars. Why must everything about them be so expensive? ><

In happier news~ I got lots of editing done today, and made some headway with the plotting of book two =D I've got all the stuff I know down in relatively chronological order, so now the big gaps are more obvious and therefore easier to fill, or so we hope. Now I'm wondering whether to natter about this with Sallie and/or Shanra. On the one hand, it helps sort things out. On the other, I never like spoiling people XD; WE SHALL SEE.

And now~ I have things to read :DDD --or not because the oven buzzer's just gone off for my smoked salmon tarts. BUT. READING WILL GET DONE TONIGHT. ♥!

The backup drive in the shed is bugging me =/ My HD is 80 gigs, and it tends to be around 60-70 gigs full. The backup drive has 60 gigs allocated to me, which is PLENTY considering all I need to backup is My Docs (33 gigs) and a few peripherals (like fonts, address book, Photoshop brushes and swatches. No more than half a gig).

Why, then, is it telling me it's full? Where does it come up with a figure of 59.9 gigs when, after counting through each folder, it comes to a grand total of no more than 35? Where the hell is it coming up with these extra 25 gigs? As far as I know, no other computer can even GET to that drive. What in the name of all things shiny is it DOING? Yes, I know it's been raining, but fire danger season is hardly over, and I'd like to have my stuff backed up, plzkthx. My computer could still go bugger-up without a bushfire =/
