Two weeks off woooooo!

I've just finished off the Sydney photobook, so I'll be able to get that printed in the new year. I also really want to get DW!tpyo re-layouted and maybe get a start on bloogum, too. Cross as many things off the December List of Doom as I can, though of course I won't get it all done.

YAY FREE TIME! GLORIOUS FREE TIME!

Aaaaalmost finished my August list. I would have, but there are no acceptable bright green 2008 Mazda 2 bumpers in Adelaide (there were two that were a bit dodgy but none perfect), and it was raining when I was hoping to put up the shade cloth. Also I'm still not totally sure how I'm going to do it. There's no kit for putting up a retractable shade cloth when you've already got the shade cloth, which is what I was really hoping for. Mrr. We'll see.

I finally FINALLY, have my home loan refinancing sorted. I started doing this in February, and one would think that my home loan (owner-occupied, salaried job, no addons or anything weird) would be pretty goddamn basic, but no. What with the banking royal commission, they want more and more shit from me all the time, but finally it's DONE. I now just have to wait for settlement, which should be in the next day or two, and that's it. This will mean roughly an extra $400 a month that I'm not paying on the home loan, but the loan itself will take no longer to pay off. This is more per month extra than the biggest pay rise I've ever had. BRILLIANT. No more stagnating! I can finally save money for stuff without it being yanked away by bills! I can get my glasses display cabinet! I can get a couch! I might even be able to save for a kitchen! I'm excited.

Entirely unrelated but I have no segway: on the back of Shanrie telling me how she'd been watching Cowboy Bebop I've been revisiting classic animé, starting with the said cowboy. I'd forgotten SO MUCH of that show omg, namely just how much it was like my all-time favourite, Trigun. It's just got the same feel to it, how the characters play off each other, the mix of comedy and serious, and most of all the animation. I think this would've been the first time I actually saw it in Japanese, because the first time I saw it was on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, back when Foxtel first started running animé, and of course that was the dub. And I didn't have it downloaded before now, so I must've only ever seen the dub. Wow.

And noooow I have three episodes left of Fullmetal Alchemist so I'm ready for tissues now. I will need them. I did the first time, to the point where I couldn't read the subtitles and had to pause it to be able to actually read what was going on D: Prooobably second-favourite? Idk. Cardcaptor Sakura is probably equal. Also I want to watch Noir again. CLASSIC ANIME BINGE IS GO.

Frig, over a month again, damnit. I'm 33 now! Yay! Also we have a new PM. Again. In the past eight years we've had two elections but six Prime Ministers. Wtf.

August has been my month of getting shit done. I made a big list at the beginning of the month of all the stuff that's been piling up to get done, some big and some little, and I've just about crossed it all off. I've cleaned the oven, washed the kitchen walls (I have no exhaust fan, so the smoke and steam from cooking congeal and drip down the walls. It's great), cleaned and reorganised the fridge and cleaned and reorganised the pantry. Fixed a shelf in the studio that Rory broke by jumping on it too many times, so he's not allowed in the studio anymore.

I've organised for more quotes for turning my cupboard into a display cabinet, this time contacting glaziers, because the only quote I managed to get out of cabinet makers was over 5 grand. So. Emailed ten glaziers, five said it's outside their scope (of whom two said I should go to cabinet makers), three didn't get back to me and the other two came around on Tuesday morning to get measurements. I've got one quote back so far, which is a titchy smidge over 2k so that's aaaalmost within my 1.5-2k budget. I'm just waiting on the other quote then I reckon I'll make a move and get this thing installed. Woo!

I bought a duster and dusted, turned the posts on the cat tree upside down so he can scratch at the top of the posts again (he's all but destroyed what was previously the tops) and swapped over the hard disks in my laptops. Shwiggy, which had a shiny new solid state disk installed about 2 years ago, no longer charges so it's exclusively used for Foxtel now. And then there's N00b, bought at the beginning of the year, which had only a regular 1TB hard disk because it was $300 cheaper and I already had a shiny SSD. So finally I got around to swapping the disks over.

Dry cleaned my coat, wherein they lost one of the buttons that made me buy the thing in the first place and then tried to blame me for it. Thankfully I had a spare, but I'm totally going to leave them a Google review on this =| Not happy. On that note, did some clothing maintenance and sewed up holes, reattached other buttons, chucked out some beyond repair stuff.

Done weeding, swept the shed, swept the cobwebs out and sprayed it over with surface spray, cleaned and vacuumed the car interior (not exterior cos it'll get rained on within the week), done my taxes, done the last bits for getting my home loan refinanced and reopened a bank account that had closed itself due to inactivity.

I have an outline for the Tsayth NaNo which I'm pretty happy with, though I'll revisit that in a month to see if I'm still happy.

Finally, and I mean that in every sense of the word, I finished Kate Hawtin's website! She's currently in Greece so haven't been able to see it, but I'm pretty stoked. Still a bit of back end stuff, like obviously getting her domain/hosting and then converting it to a Wordpress site she'll be able to update herself, but this is the beginning of my portfolio of websites. It's been a looong time coming. I'd like another one, maybe two websites, then I can pretty confidently prove to prospective employers that yes, I can design a goddamn website you blind arseholes. Now I've got this one, though, I'm going to start applying again. Never know, that one could be enough to prove myself.

Two things yet to cross off the list, but I'll get them done this weekend, I hope. I'm so excited for the glasses cabinet! It actually feels doable now! I was so close to giving up and either leaving it as is or halfarsing it somehow, but now I feel like it's going to happen really soon. WOO!

Why has it been four years since I last updated the fanart page on bloogum? WHY? The commissions bit is starting to get really long and, on this layout, ugly. I'm going to be considering a new layout shortly. Hrm. ALSO get myself an update schedule for the thing. Every three months at least cos this is nuts.

General life updates: doctor yesterday to get more stuff for my ears, sorted. Dentist today because it's apparently been 10 years since I last went wtf. Teeth generally good, just one spot where I have an old filling that's pushed out the tooth a bit and caused decay? Idk. Getting that filling replaced anyway, and that's the filling's fault not mine. I'm booked in for when I get back from Japan.

I've been to an AFL Women's match 8D Mum and I went on Sunday, Crows vs Carlton. It was much fun. Super low scoring but we won in the end, woo! There was a long bomb from about 70m from Erin Phillips, who is awesome, that bounced a couple of times before going through and getting us the win. I love this comp ♥ ♥

God there's a lot going on. I leave for Japan (well, Sydney for a few days first, then onto Japan) next Friday, and before then I'm going to a sake flight with Mum and Dad, watching more AFL ladies, going out with Tinder date (who I think is upgraded now to boything but I NEED TIME TO WRITE THAT POST PROPERLY) to a Fringe show, going out with Colin, Laura and Tinder-boything to Madame Hanoi's for dinner, getting a haircut and donating blood. I have one night with nothing planned. By which I mean I plan on doing nothing. Hoo boy. Oh and I have to pack in there somewhere, too.

DAAAAAAH.

Okay real talk. Really real.

You know my awesome hot chocolate mix with minimal sugar? I want to release it. In actual containers that people can buy and make their own awesome hot chocolate.

I've been thinking about this in various different guises for years. It started out, of course, as, 'Wouldn't it be cool if..?' A year or so ago, in making my online portfolio, I recognised all the different levels of marketing and design involved, from the stuff I already know how to do, like business cards and brochures, through the obvious website and packaging, maybe even point-of-sale stuff. I could make all that as mockup stuff as if it were a real brand for my portfolio.

Over the past few weeks, I've been going to local markets to look for Christmas tree decorations. Brick+Mortar Creative is one of my favourite places in Adelaide. It's part café, part point-of-sale for a bunch of local makers. Almost like a permanant craft market, all really high quality artisan stuff. Ceramics, jewellery, beautiful prints, workshops where I've done a few lettering/calligraphy workshops, and in the last few months, produce. 'By golly, gee whizz, I wish I had the guts to do that.' Except that my artistic talents I don't think are suited to such a place. Pencils and computer art are frigging everywhere on the Internet, and I know I'm nothing special to stand out from that, and graphic design... well, we know the stage that's at.

But last Thursday, I went to their Christmas champagne cocktail party do, which was lovely. Full of the makers who sell their stuff there, including one person selling chocolate she makes. So delicious, dark and bitter and fruity and local and awesome. So I bought a block, and shortly afterwards heard her talking to one of the proprietors. 'I just sold a block!'

And you know what? I'm starting to get the guts. I have absolutely zero idea where to start, so consider this post The Start. The Dream. With things like Patreon and Kickstarter and places like Brick+Mortar existing, it's just that little bit easier to not be scared of failure.

First step is to figure out what's involved in getting started. Legalities... other things... how do you get suppliers? I have my favourite cocoa I use, but could I get something more local? The cayenne and cloves are just Masterfoods. I don't even know where the cinnamon's from; it just came in bulk from Gaganis. What about packaging? How do you get stockists? Do you have to have a factory for this stuff? Who does that go through? Food labelling and what's required there. Start with Business SA and go from there.

Marketing I feel would be much easier, simply because I have some sort of a toe in the water of that. Start with cafés, places like Brick+Mortar. Markets? Maybe, but the face-to-face thing is still scary. But hey, if this is real talk now, really real, maybe that'll happen.

I can so totally do it. Why the hell not? What if I fail? No idea. I genuinely don't know what the consequences of failing are. But on the other side, what if I succeed? Now, that bit I can picture.

OH GOD I NEED A LIST. Why do I have no time? I am a single, unattached person with an 8:30-4:30 job. How do people with attachments--either significant other or kids--have any time? How do shift workers have time? Jesum Christmas, self, get yo shit together.

o Book massage and generally plan out pamper day on Saturday
o Do as much laptop battery fixing as possible*
o If that fails, sort out refund or replacement from ebay seller.
o Clear emails
o Plan website for client
o Meat shop
o Finish washing up
o Tidy house. Won't take long but needs doing so let's put it on the list
o Photograph front garden and post that
o Go to Bunnings and ask about the cupboard-to-display-cabinet conversion

o Sallie's birthday present
o Get the damn stick whizz replaced
o Garbage tix
o Email glaziers for quotes on cupboard-to-display-cabinet conversion

o Finish stringing pots for hanging screen
o Photograph and list the old modem (and maybe telly?) for ebay sale
o Book Yoshi in for service
o Update Sparklies

o Apply for all the jobs on Seek
o In-tray
o Call SGIC and get Yoshi's hail repairs sorted

* idk if it's the battery, which is brand new and genuine, or the laptop, which is old and just had the same problem with the last (non-genuine) battery. Problem being that laptop can't identify the battery and therefore can't charge it.

List of Doom is going well. I'll call Rockford and RAA tomorrow at lunch to change address and cancel third party car insurance respectively, then come home and investigate health insurance. Saturday the Crows are on, so I'll be at Mum and Dad's and will ask Dad about super then, see if he has the faintest goddamn idea how this shit works. If not, then screw it, I'm leaving super where it is. And then adulting will be DONE and I'll reward myself with a pamper day.

Attending to all the emails was the most time consuming, because most of them were the adulting ones I'd been putting off for months.

So that's cool.

annarti: (see it's like this...)
Admin to-do list because this will stop me from putting it off. Except the Census. That'll happen when the site works. YAY.

  • Super. Idk what do but I feel it's time to figure that out.
  • Contents Insurance
  • Car Insurance
  • Cancel third party car insurance with RAA
  • Health Insurance
  • Tax Return
  • Council Rates
  • Update Address with Myer and Rockford
  • All of the Emails
  • Call iinet again
  • Make sure banking is up to date
  • Census. lol.

  • This is way too much adulting.

EDIT 8:34PM Status report: Census still broken.

Tried logging into Myer, couldn't remember password because idk what password phase I was in when I created that, click 'forgot your password?' and get told that I've had too many failed login attempts and please call customer support to unlock your account. After two fails! Even banks give you three chances before they lock you out. Myer's a department store!

Rockford I need my membership number, which I can't find, so I've sent them a 'help' message, too. They're almost certainly a manual thing rather than automated. Rockford's like that.

I have paid my council rates, though. Or rather, set it up to pay on the day before it's due. If I can just get one thing done every night I'll have it all done in a couple of weeks.

Tuesday I was SO ON POINT with doing stuff. I did everything I set out to do after work :D

Went for a run, cos I'm back on that now as of 1 August because there's enough light now, yay.
Reheated pizza for dinner while having a shower
Ate the pizza watching Game Grumps
    Went shopping for soup ingredients
Saw Ghostbusters and was most entertained :D
Came home, made soup for work lunch and washed up after both it and dinner

    BOOYEAH.

Last night was going to be Admin Night, stuff like banking and taxes, which should be prefilled by now, and paying electricity bill. Step one was connect the new NBN modem to the internet. Step one was an unmitigated failure so I got nothing done XP I've called iinet now so they'll call me back in an hour as of... half an hour ago? Better than being on hold, anyway. In the meantime I still have the ADSL2+ so no loss. And then tonight will be Admin Night. What a frigging kickarse Friday night I've got planned.

    Why can't stuff just WORK?

The best thing about finishing the jar of sundried tomatoes is using the oil to make sweet potato chips. Necessity forced me to use the microwave and then the griller to cook them, but that actually worked out better than my usual oven method, I think, so I'll be doing that again!

My letter writing has been going well! I've had a response from two people so far, one of them from kindy who I've now sent a letter to, aaaaand the other from Laura. DID NOT PICK THAT. So I emailed her back from the heart, saying how her dumping me back in year seven was still affecting me seventeen years later, but I'm mature enough now to forgive her. HARDEST LETTER EVER. Even more so than job application cover letters.

AND I GOT A REPLY. IT JUST ABOUT MADE ME CRY. OMFG.

She apologised, said she was being bullied herself at the time but knows that was no excuse, and now cringes with how she treated me back then. "Thank you for forgiving me, it really does mean a lot. ... I'd really like to get to know 30 year old Anna :)"

I just. Man I am so glad I did this. I can't wait to see where this goes.

Entirely unrelated, but I've also planned myself a day of pampering on Saturday 8D Reward for finishing the portfolio.

I'm going to go down to the beach and do my fitness on the sand, because nothing makes me feel good like Accomplishing a Thing. Jump in the sea because it looks like it should be pretty goddamn perfect for that. Have breakfast at the TripAdvisor ranked best breakfast place in Glenelg. Wander Jetty Road and probably buy a thing and also ice cream. Sit on the beach (or grass in the shade, might be too hot for the sand by this point) and read. An hour massage booked at 3pm back up here, taking me to 4pm. Mosey on back home and watch a movie with chips and Baileys. Dinner I haven't figured out yet, but I'm skipping lunch so I'll want something. Evening tba.

I'd hoped to go to Marion, get something nice there and go see a movie, but the only movies I want to see are at inconvenient times (The Good Dinosaur, on when I want to be having breakfast and also 5 minutes before massage) or I'm seeing with someone already (Deadpool, with Alex's friend Linda who I met up with last weekend.) So idk. I'll figure something out.

I can't wait for Saturday you guys 8D

I totally got to shoot down the State Treasurer at work today 8D THE POWER!!!!!!!!!1

I kinda never want to contextualise that.

I was going to have a totally pampering day tomorrow, but then I got a text from Alex's friend to go to lunch and I went HELL YES I want to make a new friend! Also I didn't get around to booking a massage, so there's that. Also I still have all that crap to do that I didn't get to do because of the portfolio. Last night I cracked Office (FINALLY) and the night before that was Adobe Creative Cloud (ALSO FINALLY), tonight was tidy the house, which I did all of except sweeping and de-cobwebbing the garage because the car was in there and I couldn't be arsed moving it. Tomorrow.

Also the roof leaked again. It dripped all over my souvenir stuffed toys, puddled on the shelf, dripped onto my in-trays which I hadn't yet done and hence made all the papers soppy AND soaked into the cardboard of the trays, so they're all warped now, then puddled on the desk and soaked the bottom of two binders including their contents, one of which was the Big Book of Stuff, and then puddled onto my barely-a-year-old carpet.

I am so goddamn over this.

The Big Book of Stuff is mostly printed with toner, but all the arts I've printed pre-toner printer were done with the old inkjet, so allllll of those bled all through everything. Amazingly the traditional art is all mostly okay, with the exception of Lynnlita's profile page which has a bit of bled ink around the hem of her dress. The original drawing of the yrae survived, though. I've chucked all the digital art--folder wouldn't close with all the sodden paper and also they're ruined anyway.

    UGH.

I mean I've been wanting to reprint the Big Book of Stuff anyway, design it in InDesign, add in all the Character 145 stuff, but not like this. Again, I say, UGH.

But then I made this for dinner and everything is awesome.

AND. Fitness is working! Onnnnn Tuesday? Wednesday? When it was cold and pissing with rain and the roof leaked. On that day, I wore pants to work for the first time in months, and my normal black work pants that I've worn all through winter are baggy enough now that they don't fit! I can instead fit an old pair that I couldn't fit anymore! Yessssss I'm so going to be sexy and sleek and svelte and other sweet words starting with S.

    This is what happens when I don't update for a while. I'm sorry =D;;

    annarti: (see it's like this...)
Listed the Shagna, finally, so that'll go up tomorrow after it gets approved, and then I'll be on the way to becoming around $3600 richer, hopefully. Right now I'm $135 poorer. Costs a bit to list a car. I listed the old phone over the weekend, too, along with relisting the 60s lights, so cross fingers something happens there.

I'm taking a break fro the portfolio to do all that stuff that I've been putting off because of the portfolio. This weekend I did as much gardening as my excuse for a garden can take, pulling up thistles and weeds from the crappy pavers and concrete and sweeping up the dirt and dead leaves, and cut off dead bits from plants that have dead bits.

Still on the list are various computery things, start organising people for stage one of the garden and sorting out insurance for home/contents, car and health. So that's fun. Really want to beat down a good chunk of that tonight.

OH AND! On Friday I got a lovely package from [livejournal.com profile] ladylight ♥ The Christmas card's up next to the tv now, and me and notebooks, man. I can't get enough of them. I don't know what to do with half the ones I have and yet I still get excited for more, especially beautiful Kazinian birdie ones X3 Thank you so much!

AND AND! Another package arrived last week at work from my Sallie featuring roughly a million Wii games, give or take. Most excited about my first ever Zelda game and also Donkey Kong because the first one way back for the SNES holds a special place in my heart. I am so special and loved ♥!!!

I should stop being stingey and turn the aircon on.

    Happy New Year!

    Sat, Jan. 2nd, 2016 02:09 am
    annarti: (see it's like this...)
2015 was pretty damn good to me, really.

It's pretty much been the year of the house, though I did stop doing stuff halfway through the year. But yeah. I moved into my new house! And completed both the bedroom and studio to be pretty much perfect. I love them both. I had meant to at least start on the garden in spring but somehow the entire season just flew by and now we're already a month into summer, and all I've done is get a quote to have everything removed. YEP. That'll be a 2016 project.

I also bought a new car! My (money is an object) dream car, even! It's name is Yoshi. I've been eyeing these things off for YEARS, they're so pretty and the green is perfect and I love them. And I love Yoshi. I haven't got around to selling the Shagna yet so I currently own two cars. Yeah. Better get around to that.

I turned 30! And celebrated that in the best way possible, flying to Sydney to see my two besties, Alex and Cassie. We went to Quay for the most amazing dégustation in the country, and also to high tea in the Queen Victoria Building the day before specifically for Alex's birthday (we're the same day but different ages) and they were all gorgeous. Best people, best time. Cassie and I then took a road trip up the East Coast to Brisbane, which was awesome. I discovered Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay and I'm so going back to both of them. Mostly Byron Bay. I could spend a week in that area. So gorgeous.

I've also really, really focused on learning new web design stuff. I would go nowhere near to saying all the stuff I've been learning is my bitch, but we're getting there. I made a blog in Wordpress with a layout, I'm pretty damn good with flex-boxes and @media queries to make responsive layouts now, made a snazzy gallery and beat parallax scrolling into submission. I'd hoped to have my snazzy new web folio finished by the end of the year, but I've still got two more bits to finish--the writing and the print design.

This is, of course, all part of getting a new job. I love my workplace and I have the best boss I've ever had ever, who makes me and my work feel SO valued and SO welcomed, but at the end of the day it's still print and that's not where the future of graphic design is. So still looking for another job, but at least I have a great workplace while I'm looking now.

Outside of my life, my little brother got married! I have a sister-in-law now :DD The wedding was gorgeous, despite the 40+ degrees. I love that girl, so glad to have her in my life ♥ They finally got their house building under-way at the beginning of December, after frigging ages of plan approvals and loan approvals.

SA got set on fire TWICE, once last summer and once a few weeks ago. I mean, there are always smaller ones but I'm talking the big ones that take days to put out and get on interstate and possibly international news. And then this video came out from the last Pinery fire and I just askdgjhalksdga oh my GOD you idiots.

Mr Rosenfeld said Australians who had commented on the video had said ‘it’s people like you that put our fire service at risk’.
“They’re absolutely right. We put those people at risk if they had to come out and save us and risked their own lives,” he said. ... “[Bushfires are] bigger than you, and people have to research and respect other countries.”

YA THINK? GEEZE. HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE HEARD ABOUT AUSTRALIAN BUSHFIRES. IN SUMMER. WHEN IT'S 40+ DEGREES. How can you come to Australia, see a GIANT CLOUD OF SMOKE LIKE THAT, and not think something along the lines of 'oh shit'?

Anyway. I got carried away. This is the year-review-and-preview post not general posting.

    Minor things:
o Changed up my hair. It's super short on the right and long-ish on the left so it goes swishy and I love it.
o Stocked my kitchen, mostly. Just a few things left on the list of stuff I need in the kitchen.
o Sold my old Lego Paradisa for $400 on ebay YEAH! also sold all my old bedroom furniture yay!
o Got payment from the government for the money I was owed from old work, yay! So that chapter of life is officially closed.
o Crows coach Phil Walsh was murdered by his son and the trial is... happening now I think? Or soon? Idk. Unsurprisingly nothing is getting out.
o 1985 Hill of Grace from Colin and Laura for my 30th! Which we had later on in the year with a beautiful steak, mmm.

Pretty much covers it, I think. Onto the goals! )

    <footy>

HOLY SHIT I LOVE THE CROWS. That was the best match I've seen in a long time. Not only did we beat the team second on the ladder but we totally THRASHED them. First quarter ended at 51 to 1. We kept the second-ranked team in the AFL goalless for the first term. Homg it was beautiful. And our kicking was so straight! What was it, 6 or 7 goals straight, before the record was blemished by a WEagle rushing a behind? The crowd all booed him for tarnishing our beautiful run. And the coach was looking so proud of his boys, and they were all patting each other on the back, and grinning and just so HAPPY. I mean, I know we've just thrashed Brisbane and Essendon but about 100 points each, but they're pretty crap teams these days. THE WEAGLES. HOLY SHIT I can't get over it. I want to watch that match again. Crows not just making up the eight, now. They're a contender.

    </footy>

Days like these make me happy to be back in Adelaide. I mean, it's still very much jeans and jumper weather, but the blossoms are all out and it was a lovely drive over to Mum and Dad's, sun's out and all dappled through the gum trees, AMAZING footy with people who are just as excited about it as I am, noice coffee with a lovely view... though tbh I've gotten a lot of coffees and lunches with amazing views over the last two weeks XD It's just nice to have a view which is also familiar.

    Still frigging cold, though.

Right I need a list. Because I have a lot of shit to do over the course of the next week and lists help me.

o Comment on All the Things. Fics x3 and pics x1,000,000
o Photoshop and upload Sydney/road trip photos
o Post Sydney/road trip photos (oh god that's going to take ages)
o Scan group certificate proving period of employment at Flinders Street, upload for FEG claim
o Find homes for birthday presents
    o Vacuum
    o Sweep/mop floors
    o Put clothes away
o In tray. Always the in tray

    o Look into Netflix
    o Finish chapter 15. It's like 4 pages in. I can manage another 3 by week's end
    o Tidy living/dining
    o Tidy studio
    o Clean bathroom/loo/laundry

    I'll update that as required.

YAY WEEKEND. I'm going to sleep in so hard tomorrow. I've had this lingering, fiddly fartarsey 'cold' for a week now. Slightly runny nose a little bit, and yesterday started hacking up a lung maybe 2-3 times a day, no achey tired or anything, but it's just Not Going Away. So maybe if I just sleep in that'll kick it. I hope. It better not still be lingering in a week's time, cos then I'll be Peeved.

List time! And all of this is specifically for tonight so my weekend will be free for writing :D

o Dinner, including the washing up thereof
o Taxes. Do it now and there's a slim chance you might get the refund while in Sydney! That'd be cool.

    o Comment on stuff
    o Wrap Alex's birthday present
    o The In Tray
o Not that there's much, but tidy the bits of the house that need it. Take like 5 minutes but stick it on the list so you don't put it off.

    That should cover it.

I also bought a new keyboard and mouse because I'm doing this white-green-kraft aesthetic as properly as I can and keyboards are cheap. It's quieter than the old Microsoft one, but I have to hit the keys just a LITTLE bit harder so every now and then I miss a letter typing. Something I'll get used to, I'm sure. It's very pretty, though. Speakers and scanner I don't know about, webcam I can probably do for cheap but it's that small that it'll only make a difference if I can do the monitor. Which. Pointless. I'n not replacing this one until it carks it. Buy a second for dual monitor setup, probably, but not ditching this one. It's great.

Wacoms don't come in white/green/kraft/anything but black and silver right now. See if they ever have a generation that does. Then I'll be tempted. I also looked into their wireless option, but it doesn't seem worth it. The battery only lasts like 6 hours (or something) and then you have to plug it back in to charge for about the same amount of time. So that's clambering under the desk daily just to get a cord off of it. Seems to be more of a travelling thing rather than a wires-off-the-desk thing. Anyway.

This whole white-computing-stuff thing will likely only happen as and when hardware fails and I have to replace the thing anyway. I bought a microphone to replace the one that's so old it's from when beige electronics were In, and it has largely broken. I'm told I'm very quiet, anyway. So new one on the way! It cost $4.23 but no reputable companies like Logitech or ANYONE make desktop microphones any more, they're all headsets. We'll see if the $4.23 with free postage from China is an improvement. Frankly I'm amazed they're not making a loss on the thing.

FOOTY TIME. Cos like hell I'm watching the cricket tonight =|

Ears have been slowly but surely acting up again. Haven't gotten as bad as they did last time but I've booked a doctor's appointment next Monday so I can have them fixed before I go to Sydney. They're just at the mildly irritating stage right now, occasionally itchy, usually noticeable, but I know from personal experience that it's not going to just go away so let's get rid of it now before it starts making infections. YEAH.

EDIT actually screw being productive I'm going to veg and watch a movie. Cos I'm an Adult.

STRATA MEETING HAPPENED. ACTUALLY HAPPENED. FRIGGING MIRACLE.

We had an outside-appointed chair, whose authority was recognised by all including Paranoia Lady. Even when she tried to raise her pet issues, the chair, who cost $121 and was worth every goddamn cent, shot her down as to why her concern wasn't valid or why it was and got us all to agree and then MOVE ON omfg we actually moved on. It was brilliant. I could have kissed her.

I wasn't expecting to be home until after 11. I was home by 8. I have a nice lamb chop dinner and I can still accomplish things for the evening. THIS IS AWESOME. LIST TIME.

  • Book flights
  • Do the Thing
  • In tray

  • Empty back seat of car
  • Bin night

    Things I have done today:
  • put the washing on
  • built a bookcase
  • stocked the bookcase with all my books
  • hung the washing up
  • posted that letter (oh yeah I did it)
  • shoved piles of polystyrene and boxes into the bin
  • swept the kitchen floor
  • swept the leaves from the front door
  • fixed the electric blanket (I had it upside down, so the feet were at the head end. Meant the zoned head/feet heating didn't work out so well.)

Things I have still not bloody done geeze 'narti:
  • tidy the desk
  • take the washing in but it's still damp. I'll give it another hour

Seriously what is it with me and tidying the desk? I get most of it cleared and then get bored for the last little bit and distracted by the computer. Frig.
