Random writing thoughts, cos I'm not bloody WRITING and haven't managed a goddamn chapter all year:

  • Make a character who is a pigment hunter. I'm doing that some time. Maybe a NaNo or something? Idk if it could go for a full novel(la) but I want one.

  • How lovely would it be to make the prose actually sound like the language? Get rid of as many S-es as possible during the Raykinian bits and shove even more into Kazin. Would anyone notice? Probably not because the possessive 's is impossible to eliminate, but... I still want to keep it in mind for the rewrite.

  • Frig I had a third one. Dangit. It was a really good one, too. Oh well. OH WAIT I remember, it had nothing to do with writing and that's why I forgot. But like. The Pokémonathon and adapt them to Tsyllaes. No way it'd ever happen because there's a frigging thousand of them now, but I still have dreams.

I want to draw. I'mma put a movie on and do just that.

Dooooooo iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3 People would notice. Maybe not like everyone or even most, but the people who do notice consciously? They would think it absolutely glorious and fantastic and everyone else would just get an additional sense of setting and space that they couldn't identify out of it because all the sections would feel differently.

I WOULD NOTICE and that makes all the difference :D English is just SO heavy-handed on the esses, which is exactly why Raykinian doesn't have any. I started noticing it when Mum told an anecdote from when they were living in Indonesia, about how their sort of go-to sound to mimic English when they didn't speak it themselves was to go 'essesssessessss-ess-ess' and it's TRUE. Then I read a book that had a character with a lisp, who made a point of avoiding S when he spoke because he was so self-conscious. He spoke really slowly and in a round-about way because there were so many words he had to avoid.

So idk how practical it'd be to rewrite pretty much an entire novel with that in mind, but I WANT to. Such things as plurals and possessive -'s will be impossible, and sometimes it's just too clunky to not use an S-word, but I was thinking about it in bed last night. Rust, fully toned-back, with like two chapters in Kazin that'll be heavy on the esses, but mostly not. Tarnish, esses ERRYWHERE there's no avoiding them, everything is foreign and scary and harsh. Gold, flowery, still plenty of esses, and then Nimay goes home. And they're gone. And just thinking that makes me happy. So I'm going to try it, at the very least. If I get one chapter in and decide to chuck it in the too-hard basket, then so be it, but I definitely want to give it a shot.

Also pigment hunter. Traversing mountains and jungles and oceans to get the rarest of colours. COLOUR~

They could be in your Tsythe tale. I mean a pigment hunter would surely travel by boat a lot to different places to find pigments.

    It does!

<3 In my (admittedly limited) experience, it's a highly impractical thing to do, but oh so worth the effort if you can pull it off. It sounds like a gorgeous aesthetic. *waves pompoms* YOU CAN DO IT! <3<3<3<3<3<3

And whoo! Pigment hunter! I want to read that. It sounds fantastic. <3

In my complete lack of experience it just seems fun XD I'll get back to you after chapter one of the rewrite. Or more likely the prologue. WOO!

Exactly what I was thinking! Cos like. Tsaythis care nothing for pretty things, so they just sell it to fund their practical things like wood, hence pearl divers and all that. So yeah. All the Llayans and Kazinians and Raykinians go,'omg you spend weeks in the middle of nowhere for PURPLE DYE?' and the Tsaythi goes, 'dude no i couldnt care less im straight up doing it for cash.'
