Featuring the QVB Christmas tree and Jetstar. Cos that's all there was.

I caught the train into the city in the morning to go try on my jacket at Alannah Hill, and the 14 fitted beautifully, though they only had the black in store. The wine coloured one, which I wanted, was online at an extra discount for first-time buyers, so I ended up getting a $450 Alannah Hill leather jacket for $175, thank you very much. I was very proud. also took a photo of the tree, being as they'd turned it on back on the first. So spangly and pretty! And that's the only photo for the day.

Just after I'd made my online purchase, I got a text:

Flight JQ770 03/11/2018 from Sydney has been cancelled. Go to jst.io/jhfkgj763 [or similar, I'm not putting the exact keyboard spaz] to check your flight options. We're sorry your flight has been cancelled.

I initially thought this'd be a hoax, because of the not-at-all official looking web address and no reference to my name or any personal details at all, but a few minutes later I also got an email from Jetstar with more detail, and that was that. Ordinarily I'd say you get what you pay for with Jetstar, but we paid $300 for that goddamn flight. I usually avoid Jetstar as much as I can, because the only experiences I've had with them have been bad, and as I said on day one, they didn't disappoint. Or they did. Jetstar sucks, is my point.

So on the train ride back to Alex's I was on a text chat with Jesus to check my flight options, and I gotta say, Jesus did look after us. After the initial annoyance of having our flight cancelled, everything from thereon was pretty much free. I was first offered a Qantas flight an hour earlier than our cancelled Jetstar flight, which I wasn't sure we'd be able to make, so asked if there was anything later that evening. There wasn't, so I said righto, we'll take the Qantas one. Sorry, said Jesus, it's sold out. FRIG. So we got an arse-am Qantas flight instead, with any accommodation, food and travel being paid for by Jetstar if we just showed them the receipt. The accommodation was a bit odd, though: up to the value of $300 per room, not per person. So we couldn't get a twin room for $600 between us, but we could get two double rooms for $300 each. Looked around the airport and found rooms for $298 for the night and booked them, because I'm going to rort Jetstar for all I can for their inconvenience, and going from Alex's place Sunday morning for an arse-am flight would've meant getting up at about 3am. We already had to get up at 6am when we were staying at an airport hotel.

Plus side, more time with ma girl, Alex. Yay! For dinner we went with Alex and her aunt to the local RSL, which was... typical RSL, let's say (you could tell it'd been sitting in a bain marie for an hour). But I mean, we'd had plenty of amazing food this holiday, and considering we weren't even supposed to be in Sydney at this point, we went all right.

After dinner, Alex took us to the train station, the train took us into the city, then an Uber took us out to the airport and our hotel. Very swish for an airport hotel, honestly. Views out over the airport, good heavy curtains (not that the sun would be up when we were up the next morning, but still), bar on the top floor and a shuttle to the terminal of your choice. Nice having a queen bed to myself, too.

Day 8, Saturday 4 November, because we were in Sydney for a grand total two hours between waking up and taking off and like balls am I making a new post for that.

We woke up bright dull and early, trudged down the lift to our shuttle and stared listlessly out the window to the airport. Checked into our Qantas flight, safe in the knowledge that Qantas flights are generally not late, certainly not this early in the schedule, and they're never cancelled unless there's some massive weather event that closes the airport. I was also looking forward to leg room. That was nice. It was only, like, another 5cm, but for me that's the difference between my knees jamming up against the seat in front of me and having a little bit of wiggle room. We even got fed breakfast, all of a bowl of cereal, cup of orange juice and lacklustre coffee, thinking all the while: I should be sleeping in right now.

THE END.

It was a fantastic holiday all round, full of amazing food, even better people and a fabulous city.
