Sun, May. 15th, 2005 10:01 pmBook survey cos Cassie made me =3;;
1) Total number of books I've owned?
Um... lots? =D; My actual bookshelf is pretty meagre, (currently got 28 novels on it, w00t) but I owned a lot~ more books when I was younger. Virtually everything by Morris Gleitzman and Roald Dahl, most of the Un- series by Paul Jennings, probably half of the Famous Five series by Enid Blyton (...shuddup. And no I can't spell her name, again, shuddup) and... I'm sure there was someone else I had heaps of books by. Meh. Also a lotta non-fiction stuff that's accumulated over the years for no apparent reason. Mum and Dad buy non fiction stuff and it ends up in my room *shrug*
2) The last book I bought?
Five Quarters of the Orange by Joanne Harris ♥ ♥
No, wait, it'd be my French textbook, wouldn't it? Bugga. In that case, Refléts 3 by various people I can't be stuffed checking. Joanne Harris is better >>;
3) The last book I read?
Currently reading The Ill-made Mute by Celia Dart-Thornton, which is... I dunno. Heavy-going, but I'm enjoying it. Not my favourite tho.
Before that it woulda been Five Quarters of the Orange.
4) Five books that mean a lot to me:
Snugglepot and Cuddlepie = May Gibbs
Oh come on, you knew it was coming. I swear, every single person in this country must've had this read to them as a little kiddie--it was written in, like, 1915 *checks* 1918, there you go. The gumnut babies are so adorable, and all the ingenious little contraptions May Gibbs drew for them, like harnesses so they could ride lizards and kangaroos, a tiny pool of water in the hat shop to serve as a mirror... it's just beautiful *^^*
Song of the Lioness quartet = Tamora Pierce
The series that got me into fantasy that I first read in year 8 or 9, I think. I read it again earlier this year and it's still lovely *^^* Bit more childish than it was in year 8 or 9 obviously, but it has swords~ and desert people and a sessy prince. And stuff. And before you ask, the only thing I consciously nicked from Tamora Pierce was the name for the King's Own, everything else is purely coincidence, so there. That was a fabby series *^^* Tho admittedly The Immortals was my favourite, Alanna was the chick who got me into fantasy X3
The Belgariad and The Mallorean series = David Eddings
Because Silk ownz your arse. This is the first series I read where my hands started hurting, before that it'd only been with my own characters. See, I dunno why, but whenever something in a story really, really gets to me, my hands start hurting, which makes it really annoying when I'm trying to write. But yes, first books that made that happen. Because I love~~ Silk, and I love~~ Drasnia (his home kingdom), but he hates it, and the scene with his mum~ TT_________TT So, so much love for Silk. Favourite published character EVAR. He's so cynnicle and funny and smurt X3
Chocolat = Joanne Harris
First one of her books I read. I'd just seen the movie, then spotted the book on the shelf in the school library and was like "hmm~ I wonder if that's the same as the movie..." and it was =D My GOD the smells and flavours that woman creates with her writing. Such strong characters, and the plots are so original! Chocolat itself isn't just a story about a woman who owns a chocolate shop, it is seriously about chocolate. Five quarters of the orange isn't just about a girl who happens to like oranges, but oranges play an absolutely pivotal part in the storyline. Absolutely fantastic ♥
Chocolate = Le Cordon Bleu
It has that in it. 'nuff said X)~~~~~
(I would put another novel here, but aside from the rest of Joanne Harris' stuff, nothing else really stands out, so I could really go on for ages about books I love or loved when I was a kiddie, but I won't torture you with that X3 Instead, hot chocolate, because I am addicted to the stuff, and that is the ULTIMATE recipe ♥)
