Mon, Sep. 26th, 2005 11:15 pmI love York *^^* The minster was ringing its bells in a wedding-esque manner when we were walking up to it, but the surrounding streets were looking decidedly bare for such an occasion. Once the doors came into view, we spied a tv camera crew there, so that'd explain it. I was looking forward to seeing one of those horse-drawn carriages that we saw last time we were there, with the bride and groom in it. Aww. But apparently not.
Anyway. Our main aim for today was to go to the York Dungeons, which was absolutely BRILLIANT. So, so much fun! XDD Basically a tour of the seedy underbelly of York/Yorkshire/England, so plague, torturing, executions, witchcraft, vampires, etc etc etc, done by some very enthusiastic characters.
Judge: So, where are you from?
'narti: 'stralia =D
Judge: ...Ooh dear. Not a very good start there.
'narti: I'm from the non-convict part, if that counts >>;
Judge: *shakes head* *accuses 'narti of being a witch*
Judge: And you! Where are you~ from?
Uko: Barnsley =D
Judge: Barn~sley? Barn~sley?? That's enough to convict you already!
Then us mottley bunch had our punnishment given to us and off we went to the torturers, hurrah! Only he wasn't, cos he was working with Guy Fawkes and wanted to conspire with us about that, ooh. Secret stuff. So we got to go to a hanging instead, hurrah!
Recording at the hanging: The crowds cheered when [insert highwayman bloke's name here, I forget] was hanged.
Torturer-who-wasn't-really: ...There's only two of you, so you'll have to be a crowd each. Then we've got proper crowds =D
'narti: *separates from the Uko to form a separate crowd* I am a crowd =D *hurrahs in a Python-esque way*
Torturer: ...That's a pretty pathetic crowd.
'narti: Well I'd like to see your impression of a crowd!
Torturer: *looms up, hurrahs in a Python-esque way*
'narti and Uko: XD;;
...
Recording: It's believed he came back as a ghost to haunt those who saw his hanging.
Highwayman: *appears behind as a ghost! Oh noes!*
Torturer: *shot* *starts dying* Ooh, hang on... *lies down, groans a bit more, carks it*
Uko: Are you al--
Torturer: *groans summore* *deaded again*
'narti: You o--
Torturer: *more groaning* *really killed to death now*
'narti: ...
Uko: ...
Torturer: I'm really dead now.
Uko: Oh, okay.
Torturer: I take you to a hanging and this is the thanks I get? XP
Then in the gift shop at the end, they all came back and fuddled around poking things and getting in the way of the shop assistant. The doctor from the beginning talking about the plague~ and stuff, started dancing to the radio, too, which is one of the most hillarious things I've seen XDDD I have a video, but it doesn't work quite the same without music. Bloody brilliant XDDD Guy in full medieval getup, shaking his arse to "You make me feel like dan~cing, I wanna dance~ the night~ away~"
...You had to be there.
Eee~ that was fun XDD
We were then planning on going to the Castle Howard, but unfortunately it's closed on Mondays, and the only buses leave at 10am anyway, so we'll go there later on. Instead we hopped off to the Castle Museum, which wasn't as much fun as the dungeons, but was still vera interesting. They had heaps of little period rooms, furnished in the way they would have been in various centuries, and lots of other historical bits and pieces that I've taken photos of. Yay!
And now something completely different, my family unit in the kitchen, minus Dad cos he obviously took the photo. So it's Mum (typically in working-in-the-garden gear), Colin (typically in working-in-the-supermarket gear with a jacket over top) and the cat (typically in a tuxedo). Aww, aren't they luffly? =D Zed has apparently nicked my seat, little invasive creature X3
