Issa 'narti! =0 In~ the Maldives airport. You so envy. Or not, since that means we're LEAVING ;_____; But! We'll be in Phuket in, like, 10 hours, so we're not going back to rainy cold Adelaide yet.
OMG I LOVE THIS COUNTRY. So WARM and sunny~ and PERFECT. I feel weird with thongs on my feet, because the only footware I've worn for the past week are flippers when going snorkelling and scuba diving. Oh yes. I'm officially a scuba diver now >DD You envy. Again. Muha.
Saw a sting ray~ and sharkies~ but not as many as on Bandos last time, and FROG FISH! They're weird things. We saw two of them, which is really special cos they're incredibly rare in the Maldives, so go us X3 And~~ lion fish, saw three or four of them, ooh. Oh yeah, and an eagle ray, but didn't have the camera that time... We went to teh manta ray-spotting place, but they hadn't *quite* rocked up yet. Manta season is from about July to November-ish, but none there for us =( But frog fish! They're weird and cute and look so funny when they're walking on their fins on the rock XD And erm... Eels, plenty of eels, but the only picci I got of one kinda sucks. Pity that.
TURTLES! OMG OF COURSE! There was a turtle on just about every dive! That was fabulous. They look so pretty swimming underwater *^^* One swam past us while we were doing some of the tasks for scuba diving. Our instructor was demonstrating something to us with hand signs, then started pointing over behind us. We thought she was giving another sign, until she pointed madly back there XD;; So turn around, and there's a turtle just drifting past in the lagoon. How cool is that? How many lessons do you get where you're interrupted by a turtle swimming past? X3
And hermit crabs, they were EVERYWHERE on the island. And the geckos, aww. I <3 geckos.
Reading on the beach, cocktails in the bar, which was also pretty much beach, cos the island was small enough that wherever you stood, you could see the ocean. Eating bananas~ which was special cos of course they're bloody expensive at home right now (cyclone in Queensland wiped out about 90% of the bananas earlier this year), and~ coconut, mmm. Proper coconut, not shavings, but full on chunks that have been taken out of the husk. Nummy.
And~ I'm tanned again X3 Slightly burnt, but mostly tanned. It never fails to amaze me, the weakness of the sun outside Australia. I mean, in Adelaide, you can literally feel the sun burning your skin if you're in it for more than five minutes in summer. Nowhere else I've been, however sunny, has done that. Not in Bali, Singapore, Vanuatu, Maldives, obviously not Britain or France. Not even walking across the tarmac in Dubai, which is about as hot and deserty as it gets. Damn~ I envy you people for having ozone protection.
And~ stuff.
*drums fingers* There are seriously better airports to be stuck in for 6 hours >> The last seaplane from Helengeli, the island we were staying on, was at 5:30, meaning we got to Malé at 5pm (the resort islands are an hour in front of the rest of the Maldives, so the sun sets at dinner time), but the plane to Singapore isn't until 11:05. W00t. And then we have another 4~ hours in Singapore, unless we can get ourselves on an earlier flight.
I haven't been able to find any stuffed fish! You know, my collection of stuffed animals from holidays, mostly Britain, on my shelf over my desk? I want a stuffed shark or sting ray or turtle or something to put there, but literally the only stuffed aquatic animals I've found here have been Nemo plushies and a crappy turtle that cost about US$20. Plenty of stuffed dogs, or M&Ms, or dragons, or freaking KOALAS, but not a single fish save Nemo, and we didn't see any of those kinds of clown fish anyway. I'm hanging out for something Maldivian in Singapore now >>
RIGHT, I'm done, really XD;; Photos will obviously come when I'm in a position to send them. Namely home. In my freezing, heater-less bedroom, with a mohair blanket over my legs and uggies on my feet. Wow, that seems so far away XD *clings to warmth*
I love you all~ and miss you all~! *mwah* <3

Date: Fri, Aug. 4th, 2006 06:32 am (UTC)Your elsewhere Maldives photos are freaking gorgeous, incidentally. I LOVE WHITE SAND AND TROPICAL GREENY WATER. In WA there can be white sand plus navy oceany water or tropical greeny water plus red sand, but not white sand plus tropical greeny water. Putting them in island form is even beautifuller.
