Another meme, nicked this time from Alyssa just cos it's marginally different from the other one that everyone's doing XD
Post the first lines of the first stories posted each month of 2006
January~ Gylepi awoke late in the afternoon in the massage rooms of Ni-Yana’s palace. He smiled happily and just lay there for the moment, relishing the time of complete relaxation, the first he’d had in close to two full seasons.
February~ Nimay dug deep into the squelching mud, refusing to relinquish the borrowed spade when Rumal held out his hand to take it off her. The rhythmic action helped take her mind off other matters, though the gentle sucking sound of the mud couldn’t block out the mournful peals from that bird, hidden somewhere in the dripping leaves.
March~ A hot, dry breeze whipped the rusty desert sand around King Mithé’s ankles as he rested against the door frame of his son’s bedroom, surveying the clutter. It was reminiscent of his own, only decidedly more warrior-centric. Mithé’s room had documents and maps scattered all over it; Nolryn’s was more a hurried mess of clothes and broken arrows, left from yesterday’s endeavour to find the various items he’d need for the mission.
April~ ...This was a SH chapter, which had a veeeery spoily opening >> Here, have the first minific of the month instead =D
Aelen curled up on the couch, hugging the pillow desperately to her abdomen and pretending it made a difference. She cracked her eyes open briefly as Melraan sauntered into the room with disgusting ease and painlessness.
May~ He’s quiet. Very quiet. I’m not used to Raykinians being quiet. Not that we get them in here often, of course, but I’ve seen enough to know that even when he walked through the door, he was bizarrely quiet. Usually when they come into the healing house, they’re loud, obnoxious gits, oozing bravado from every pore… It’s really quite disgusting.
June~ The sun shone bright but uselessly, hardly bothering to reach any tendrils of warmth through the almost-bare branches of the golden ash. It had been a glorious ball of sunshine itself a month ago, its branches silver in the pleasant golden glow. Now, though, only a few stubborn brown leaves still clung to the grey limbs, stained darker from the rain that had only stopped falling an hour ago.
July~ Lynnlita smoothed her fingers over the plush velvet of her dress, the same burgundy-red as her hair. She lightly tossed the pampered ringlets over her shoulder as she admired herself sidelong in the mirror, poking at the lace around her collar so it would sit just right. She squeezed her ruby red lips together to even out the lipstick, rearranged her golden tiara, then snatched her long white gloves from the dressing table and slipped them up over her arms.
August~ Kurae closed his eyes and deeply breathed in the rich, exotic aroma of all the spices lined up in front of him. Why were there no spice markets like this in Ni-Yana? At home, peppercorns were such a luxury item that only four shops sold it, for almost ten times the price up here in Assiraz.
September~ ‘I’m not a father,’ Nolryn emphasised. ‘In no possible definition of the word am I a father.’
October~ ‘Swordie trainee’s just come in, do you want to—oh Fina, honey.’
November~ For my one and only Flannel Flower,
I could not possibly thank you enough for your gift! The feathers are beautiful, and have the most stunning patterns I have ever seen. Who would think that just two dull browns could be so striking together like that? Surely, someone has painted the targets on the feather tips, the colours are so clear and sharp.
December~ Erm... nothing >> I've been lazy since I finished NaNo XD;
