I've hit such a creative block, and it's frustrating the living hell out of me. I WANT to be creative. I want to write, I want to draw, I want to layout, I want to make new characters, I want to develop the ones I've got, I want to create, but barely anything's happening.
I open up Word, feeling fully 100% ready to write and pelt out a K or two before dinner/bed/work/tv show, but I just stare at where I'm up to and NOTHING HAPPENS. I slapped on an extra two paragraphs last week to SH, then opened it again a couple of nights ago and realised that Yamin would never in her wildest dreams say that oO So I deleted it, came up with a replacement, and am stuck again. I have FOUR unfinished minifics that were travelling so well until they all just suddenly went *THUD* and I've got no idea where they go next.
I have so many things I want to write. I want to write Mithé and Shizaaqa, not necesarily in the same fic, though that's on top of my list. I want to finish all those minifics. I want to write with Thiras and Flannel Flower, even though anything I do with them that I haven't already shown you all would be incredibly spoilery. I want to get back to my bois, and of course Yamin, Nimay and Nol. I want to write Yan--he's had an existence spanning four thousand years, and I'm slowly figuring out what exactly he DID during those four thousand years. They're all just so interesting to me, I want to write them all... but whenever I open Word, it just remains blank.
Drawing? I still owe Saku a pic for our art trade. I also want to pick one or two charries from all my friends and draw them. I feel like drawing, so I grab a movie, then sit in front of it tapping the end of the pencil against another blank sketch book page for the duration. I FEEL like drawing, but nothing comes out. The page remains blank. I want to draw someone, but I can never think who I want to draw, or how I want to draw them. Flip through the nearest magazine for ideas on poses or costumes to play with, usually the Foxtel magazine, but none of it works for me.
The current tpyo layout set? I've been poking at various alternatives for that since November, and I only just got it to look decent a little over a week ago. I'm working on one for uni right now (this one, if you're interested). Working on one. I don't work on websites! I fluff around in Photoshop for an hour or two, knock up some html, et voila, website. I'm not too keen on this one, either. The blue's just not happening.
WHY can't I get anything happening? Beginning of last year, I was pelting out eight, nine, ten minifics a day, easy. I filled up a sketchbook in five months. I was always going into the study to scan something. Until the end of year 12, I was making a new layout set for tpyo every month. Now I'm lucky to manage one minific a week, half a stick figure per movie or footy match, a new layout set every six months.
I won NaNo last year with a day or two to spare. Why didn't that translate over to SH when November was done?
I have SO MANY ideas in my head for how I want to go about doing all these things, but I just can't translate it into my fingers. I want to create, but there's just been this huge block between mind and fingers that just won't piss off. Cutting down the tallest tree in the forrest with a herring springs to mind.
I'm a creative person. I FEEL creative. Why can't I create?

Your worlds are wonderful, and I think developed really well. I envy you sometimes, how well you do. If you're having a dry spell... it happens. You'll get through it.

I wish I could say more than that... but there's not much advice to give on creative blocks T_T

If it helps any, I won NaNo in 2005 and the damn story still isn't finished. (It is nearly thrice Nano size, but that shouldn't be an excuse really.)
Anyway, I do agree with everyone else on this. It'll pass, just don't force it. Is it possible to look at some tricks that get you more into a writing mood? I hate when I get into a rut like that, but sometimes the strangest things help. (In my case, it appears to be taking a long long shower combined with something like putting on hand cream that smells nice.)
That said, how about doing something related to the creative processes without actually being creative? Would that be a possible alternative for you?
But it WILL pass and it DOES suck big time while we're there. *huggles* I've no bazookas for you, but I have a huge sledge hammer you can whallop things with if you want to borrow it.

Date: Mon, May. 14th, 2007 08:33 pm (UTC)For drawing, have you tried attempting to draw fanart? Pull up a favourite artist's style and see if you can mimic it? Or a tribute to your favourite character? I find it's usually easier to be creative if you have a reference .-.;;;. Then once you get your groove back, the rest should hopefully fall into place :D.
