Apparently I'm feeling spammy this afternoon. Sorry >> Anyway, a meme I'm making up, because I can.

Pick ten childhood memories.

1. This is my oldest memory, from when I was a smidge over two years old. I fell off the ladder and cracked my skull, but the bit I remember was looking down on myself while Mum cradled me at the end of my bed. WOO creepy!

2. My first big holiday was to Kangaroo Island, and I remember standing right at the front of the ferry the whole way over (it was a couple hours, I think) and watching the dolphins jumping through the water in front of us =D

3. Same holiday, we were feeding pelicans on the beach with these huge orange rubber gloves. One of the pelicans stole Colin's glove, and he cried =( He was five, I think.

4. The handle for the back door, the door we usually use to get in and out of the house, is about shoulder-height on me now. When I was too short to reach it, I used to drag one of the kitchen chairs over and stand on it to open it X3 I have no idea what I did if I was outside wanting to get in. I think I was buggered unless Mum was in the kitchen, which was and still is quite often.

5. One of the cows on Grandpa's farm tried chasing me =( I eat cows now =D

6. Still on Grandpa's farm, he used to have yabbies living in the dam before the seagulls and cormerants ate them all. He put out yabbie nets to catch them, and Colin and I used to like picking them up and poking them at each other >D We never got bitten, tho. Colin used to try keeping them as pets, but they flicked their tails in the middle of the night and jumped out of the plastic crate we kept them in, then crawled down the bottom of the stairs and died. Stupid things.

7. When I was about... 6? Mum knitted me the BEST jumper EVER. It was made up of coloured squares with pink in between, and letters of the alphabet inside some of them. She knitted it so that somewhere (one of the arms, I think?) it said 'ANNA' on it =D When she was knitting it, it was really complicated with all the different coloured squares, so she had this setup with a polystyrene box with knitting needles stuck in it, and all the different coloured balls of wool she was using shoved on the needles. I loved that jumper XD

8. The first story I ever wrote was about a horse. I totally forget what the plot was, but it had a lot of chickens as friends. I wish I'd kept the little book I'd written it in XD

9. We used to go down to Victor Harbor a lot to stay with Nanna and Grandpa, and Grandpa always used to sneak us lollies when Mum wasn't watching >)

10. I left my teddy in the playground once =( It was my second-favourite toy, after Rabbie the white bunny, and I'd gotten it when Colin was born. Anyway, Mum put up lost posters around my town, and someone found it and gave it back to me =D This, of course, amazes me now XDD I love the Hills XDD

Childhood farms rule. End of story. <3

Aw, your jumper sounds so cute ... and with a mini-Anna innit, hee X3 My sister had a blanket Nan crocheted for her - and she STILL has it. It is a venerable and revered item in the household.

Adulthood is so lame compared to minihood :/

I loved Grandpa's farm <3 When we had Japanese exchange students staying with us, we always took them to the farm so they could go "WOAH, SPACE" and it was so cute XD

My brother used to have a crocheted blanket! It started out blanket-sized, but it musta been really crappy wool, because by the time he was ten it was down to this tiny scrap no bigger than your hand XD; He loved that thing, tho X3

This is all SO cute.

#6 reminds me of when my sister and I found a frog in our kiddie swimming pool at our Dad's. We caught him and made him a little home in the basement. When we went back next week, my brother said he got away... thank God because we were trying to feed the poor thing bird feed! :P

#8 reminds me of my first story about a puddle named Penny. And it could turn into a shap (shape). I had nice yellow hair and a nose. XD

#7 makes me want to get better at knitting.

I had a friend who once said that a kid's happiness is directly related to how much his or her life resembles the life of Huck Finn. With your Grandpa's farm, it sounds like you were able to enjoy a great life of kiddom. It made me remember the time my friends and I went out to the nearby field to catch snakes. My mom wasn't happy when I brought one home for a pet.

Now, of course, those fields are completely filled with huge, new houses. T_T.

My first story was about how me and my friends came in from my back yard one day and got sucked into a vortex in my oven window. We got sent to a parallel universe where we had to save the world from an evil Emperor. Like you, I wish I still had it. Because, unfortunately, I better remember the speech I wrote in anticipating winning some amazing literary award for the book - it went on and on about how it had everything a great story needs (great characters, romance, etc., etc., etc.). I was 7.
