Throughout Australia's history many different techniques and treatments have been used to treat bite and sting victims. Many had limited success, while others were thought to be lethal. Two of the most controversial methods used were the injection of strychnine or ammonia. Less drastic measures included topical ammonia, brandy shots and cold emersion.
