Finally, I'm going to get a new computer \m/ Because while this one was awesome 7 years ago... that was 7 years ago. So yes, with my wonderful IT grad brother's insight, the various bits have been highlighted and come to a total of around $500. And because I know the geekery among the flist will be wondering, here are said various bits. I'm just typing what he highlighted from the MSY pricelist. Haven't got a clue what most of it means. This is why I have an IT grad for a brother, yasee <3

Motherboard: ASUS P5K Pro
CPU: Intel... something. Does E5200 mean anything? I don't even know what numbers I'm looking at.
RAM: 2 gig. Which will cost half as much as the one gig I got a year and a half ago. Go figure.
Graphics Card: Nvidia 512M 9800GT ASUS thing. Apparently this is pretty awesome. Not TOTALLY awesome cos my budget won't stretch that far, but pretty awesome nonetheless.
Power supply: because mine's noisy as crap and it's not worth buying an actual box because that's purely for aesthetic value.

Grand total: $500 give or take \m/ Obviously my screen is still sexy as, ditto the tablet, keyboard, speakers, hard drive and DVD burner. All that stuff's been installed within the last three years or so, 'cept the speakers, but they don't deteriorate over time like the innards.

I figure it'll take me about four weeks to save up enough that I'll be comfortable after buying it. THEN I WILL SQUEE. And then cry when I realise all those programs I'll have to not only install but crack D: Maya especially. That took as long to install as bloody Windows did.

ANYWAY. It will be awesome and I will be squee. So yay =D

Pssst are you getting XP or Vista installed on it? Because if you have to get Vista, you NEED 4 gig of RAM to run it. I'm not kidding. If you try to run it on 2 gig, your comp will just die endlessly.

Hell no, XP all the way. I'd need another hard drive, too, if I was wanting Vista, cos doesn't the damn thing take up about 30 gigs or something ridiculous?

Something like that, but I don't know if you can legally purchase XP anymore, is the thing. Windows have been trying to take it out of circulation for about a year now.

We've still got install disks at home, anyway. The one on my computer now is actually LEGAL omg. That and GW are the only non-freeware legal pieces of software on my computer. I'm such a uni student \m/

Yeah no but if you buy a computer with Vista on it, you can't just... install XP over it, it doesn't work like that. You have to like go into the system manually and uninstall it and idk it seemed fairly complicated when I googled it but I'm not a techie. Your brother could prolly do it.

Either way, I'm not buying 'a computer' as such, rather all the bits for it that Colin can then assemble at home. Far cheaper that way =3

GW will stop breaking after 20 seconds of play! Photoshop will save in a matter of seconds! Maya will be able to handle more than ten objects without lagging!
