7. Do you listen to music while you write? What kind? Are there any songs you like to relate/apply to your characters?
Yep, I have my writing playlist, which is roughly nine hours of instrumental stuff, featuring Armik (classical Spanish guitar), Fourplay (smooth jazz) and soundtracks from Gladiator, Chocolat, Noir, Memoirs of a Geisha and GuildWars. Chocolat and Memoirs of a Geisha are my favourites, but really anything without lyrics will do. Very, very occasionally, I'll take silence, but that's really only when I'm writing a character death, or emotion close to it.
As for character associations, I'm not really very good at finding those links. The Own and the healers had their individual characters based roughly on the lyrics of a particular song, but a lot of them have since evolved. Here, I'll give you the connections that came after the characters were made:
Touch, Peel and Stand by Days of the New = Kaen. It just bloody is. First time I've ever snapped halfway through a song and gone OMG THAT'S ___. 'Now I've finally found the reason, I don't need an excuse. I've got this time on my hands; you are the one to abuse.' Yep. Dickhead.
Ritualist's Theme from the GuildWars soundtrack = Kazin. Nobody in particular, but the whole gamelans thing, very Kazin.
Soar Free by Afro Celt Sound System = the Own. Just all of them riding home through the desert. Do love.
You Won't be Mine by Matchbox 20. Used to be for Nol way back when that's what defined him. It now works for about a month out of his 23 years. Eh, it's still a gorgeous song <3
And thus concludes! Told you I wasn't good at character associations with songs.
