As per usual, I have left tpyo dead in the water and allowed updates to pile up. HERE WE GO.
So. Conjunctivitis! I has it. Or so I can only assume, having not actually seen a doctor, but yeah, pretty sodding obvious. And here I was thinking I was just on the edge of the work-cold that's kept every single person on the staff away for a day or two over the last two weeks ('cept me who has been on leeeeave during the worst of it).
I FEEL fine. Feel better than yesterday when I slept most of the day to fight back what I thought was cold, but woke up this morning with GOOBY EYE and that's not pleasant. Ew. Gooby eye. Wikipedia tells me you can get conjunctivitis from blocked sinuses so I'm going to put it down to that. I don't know if I should call in sick tomorrow or not =/ I genuinely feel fine. No hurty, still see perfectly well, miiiiiiild itch that doesn't require itching, but at the same time LOLCONTAGEOUS. We'll see.
IT COULD BE WORSE. Boss-lady got this cold, and on Thursday Boss-man, who is Boss-lady's husband, went home to take her to hospital. When he got home, she had a seizure. She's okay but needs to spend a week in hospital, so on Friday Adelle and I went to get a bouquet of flowers from the mall and a card, so Paul could take that to her that afternoon.
Prior to that, tho, leave was awesome. I so needed a week off <3 I even felt like last week wasn't a full week cos I had time off beforehand <3 Spent two of the most PERFECT days up at Mum and Dad's, where Mum and I went to have coffee on one day and then went to Locavore for lunch, sitting right at that window table behind the bloke in the black shirt :D They're a tappas place that specialises in local food: nothing is sourced more than 100 miles from them ('cept the coffee beans. I asked X3) and the more local, the better. I had a goat curry, purely because I've never had goat before and I was intrigued. SO TASTY. And we got a coffee-infused crème brûlée for dessert. And then Mum paid and called it my birthday lunch cos she's naughty X3 I love my mummy :D
Aside from that, very much a lazy week of writing and drawing and staying up late to chat with my Sallie. Much awesome <3
On the Friday of my leave-week I picked up a Cassie from the airport for an awesome Adelaide weekend of rain and cold :D Srsly. It was stunning at Locavore not two days previously. Bring the Sydneysiders and it starts pissing down =( Way to turn it on, SA.
Anyway, took them all successfully to their apartments on the arty end of Hindley Street rather than the dodgy end, so they were surrounded by UniSA's arty City West campus, ArtsSA, the TAFE arts campus and various cute coffee shops instead of nightclubs and sex shops. And I corrected their pronunciation of Hindley, which was fun :D And, while I was at it, Thebarton, Pooraka and Reynella.
I've never felt Gouger Street was so far from Hindley as when I was guiding an irritated mother who hadn't packed shoes for an Adelaide winter of rain and more rain >> Still, ended up at a nice spot for dinner that I THINK made up for the (so not) arduous trek of maybe a kilometre. Walked past Gaucho's on the way, famous for $80 steaks and fireworks of the driveby shootings kind because that's where all the mob bosses eat, and got into a lovely chat about Adelaide being the weird murder capital of Australia, Sydney having crooked cops, Melbourne having gangland murders, Brisbane having chronic gambling, Northern Territory having dingoes that eat your baby and crocs that eat you, and Western Australia being too far away for anyone to know WHAT goes on over there.
Saturday we spent in the city, first at the Pancake Kitchen for... brunch it must be called by then. Loev. Bummed around Rundle Mall buying dresses for Cassie and FINALLY some short flat boots for me. Been looking for these sodding things for YEARS I tells ya. Then went down to Normanville to have fish and chips for dinner but the sun had pretty much set and it was still cold and drizzly =/ Never mind, she'll be back in summer when we can do it properly and the sun won't set til 9. And it'll still be 30 degrees at midnight. Mmm. Summer.
Sunday morning/early arvo was spent at home just drawing and nattering (and watching the first half of the footy out of the corner of my eye. Shh) then we ended up at Marion until it was time to head for the airport again. HUGS~ and excitement to see each other again when I go to Sydney in September :D
You can skip this next bit, it's all about footy. We won some games! Two in a row, even! Who cares that they were games against the bottom and the third-bottom teams on the ladder, we actually won some games of football! And tonight was pretty awesome too. We still lost, but only by 11 points, and against Geelong! They've won their last two games by well over a hundred points, the game two weeks ago by the second-highest winning margin in AFL history, and we gave them a hell of a scare. We can play good footy! We really can! But oh god have we been SHIT this year.
There was one really obnoxious Geelong supporter near us, SORE loser who kept yelling abuse, especially at the beginning when we were actually beating them by 2-3 goals. No likey. We were loving every second of it. I mean, freaking GEELONG. We were beating GEELONG! Nobody gave us a chance, least of all ourselves, and this woman was just... treating it like it was life or death. She actually shouted near the end, when we were only about a goal behind, "So where are you on the ladder?" Awesome woman in front of me, along with two or three others, shouted triumphantly back, "FOURTEENTH :DD" I lolled X) It was awesome~ We cheered them like they'd won at the end of that game. SO proud of them. THAT is what I wish they'd been doing all season, if not winning then at least LOOKING like winners.
And that's me done! Woo~
