annarti: (a good day to be a 'narti)
Today has been made of win and also awesome :D Home early from uni, because my 2-hour sculpture lecture consisted of one 10-minute presentation followed by, "off you go to work on your presentations, guys!" from the lecturer, and my ITC prac I finished last week so didn't need to hang around for that, either. SCORE.

Then I got home to find not one, not two, but THREE notes in my dA inbox: one with this awesome Zoidberg link from the Sallie~ <3 <3 One with this fantastic and totally unexpected and squeeful commission from the Kuuuuu <3 <3! And finally~ a note from the person I'm commissioning myself saying "pay me monies and I can start sketching :D"

Also, I think I've pretty much reached the stage where Nanna-related memories are making me smile rather than choke up. Still a bit of sudden never-see-her-again-ness, but for the most part, happy memories. The funeral helped. My cousins, Colin and I spent a good three hours after it reminiscing about Nanna and Grandpa, and we got to laugh and have fun with such memories, so yay <3

We also found Grandpa's old diaries. He kept one every year since DECADES ago, and wrote in it every day. Not every one was there, but! We did find 1979, which was the year Mum and Dad got married =D So we looked up February 10 and there were about~ six lines. Paraphrased a bit cos I can't remember it word for word:

Dianne and Albert's wedding day. It turned out to be beaut weather. I think it all went OK.
Went out to the farm and fed the sheep. All OK out there.

He actually wrote 'beaut' alksghalsk Have I mentioned how awesome my family is? Cos they are. We suspect he was possibly drunk while writing it, cos yaknow. Father of the bride. It's like his patriotic duty to get drunk on the wedding day/night. And yes, the sheep got roughly the same amount of writing as his first-born's wedding <3

In some other box were photos from said wedding, which are so fantastically seventies you can't believe it. Dad had a WHITE SUIT (which we always knew and mocked, but seeing it in photos is just brilliant) with a waistband just about up to his chest. Big black hair, thin moustache... he looked like a Columbian drug lord, seriously. And Mum's bridesmaids (her sister and best friend) were wearing what looked like nighties with little blue flowers all over them. SO SEVENTIES.

Compared to the shots of Nanna's and Grandpa's wedding back in the thirties? There just... there's no comparing them XD Nanna looked GORGEOUS <3 Loooong lacey white train, all spread out perfectly on the floor around her, eee <3 There were about half a dozen copies of their photos made, so we'll get one that I'm so going to have to scan. Along with Mum and Dad for the lols.

I'm a happy 'narti =3

*sticks in footy tips for the week* oh GOD please let this be better than last week. First week went well, got six there (from eight games). Last week? ONE. ONE from eight. Suckage.

Fun day at uni today =D Expect some more 3D Maya stuffs within a week or two, cos it's just about ready to all hook up together and be a PERSON OMG. And also the coolest tricycle you've ever seen in your life. Srsly, you'll wish you had this trike when you were a kid.

Dear Creative Artists,

Thank you so much for last week's sessions; I enjoyed meeting you all, and I look forward to next week's materials.

Due to some unfortunate programming and printing issues, I will have to cancel this week's classes. (I programmed a lecture that was to be delivered by a staff member who is now on leave - long story.) We will resume with a vengeance next week, when we begin our examination of Philip K. Dick and his life and work, and look at Spielberg's adaptation of "The Minority Report".

If there are any questions you need answered, please be in touch with me via email, or on the 'phone: [number].

Many thanks,

Nick

Dot-dot-freaking-dot. This time next week? I'll have had ONE tute for this topic. Next week is week FOUR. What in the name of all things shiny am I paying for?

Woo~ back from shopping and uni stuff. Overall, successful on the shopping front, not so much on the uni front.

I OBTAINED:
o sticker on student card
o bikini (Billabong even, ooh)
o mouse (Logitech one, cos the Microsoft piece of crap has been getting on my nerves for far too long)
o powerboard
o drink bottle (let's hope it doesn't leak)
o Bonds comfy undies (I swear Mum's been stealing mine. I started with 8 and now have 3. The new ones are bright blue and green so she won't be nicking them =P)

I DID NOT OBTAIN:
o wall planner from uni (they haven't come in yet; due in o-week)
o uni diary (also haven't come in yet; due later this week. Can you tell uni's not starting for a month?)
o boardies (all too small, or black. wtf black boardies?)

Also forgot to go to BankSA and ANZ and let them know I'm a student and therefore not charge me fees. Oops.

(Also also, car thermometer said 42 as I was driving down. TOLD YOU SO. That's exactly a week with maximums above 40 now, and I've barely felt it. God I love aircon.)

I am so very ready to go back to uni. Like, tomorrow. If uni started again tomorrow I would be so very happy, despite it still being near-as 40 degrees*. I've got my timetable all sorted (nothing clashes! It's like that Honda ad where things just work! It's like it was staged to happen that way!) and tomorrow I'm going in to do last little end-tying things like buying a diary, getting a new sticker on my student card, finding if they have those giant wall planner thingoes in yet... uni stuff is happening! AND my classes and respective tutors are set to be made of awesome. Theodor and KC in one semester? Yes plz.

And yaknow what? I'm on holidays still for another MONTH. asdghlask I was getting stir crazy by new year, and having everything for uni sorted and therefore in my mind is making it worse~

Waaaaaant uni back now, plzkthx. Why do we still have another month, seriously? Frig.

* predicted only, of course. It'll actually hit 42 again, just watch. Today was actually quite cool, only got to 40.2. I just about had goosebumps walking outside an hour ago. I mean, it'd almost dropped into the high 20s! MADNESS!

annarti: (whee~ pretty colours)
I got a Distinction~ for my major essay, wai :D All I have left for the semester is my webpage portfolio (half-done, I just have to code it) and one and a half paintings (the half I'll finish at uni, and the one I'll do at home cos I want to paint my bananalamb and there's no way in hell that's going to uni). So yay, uni almost done for the semester =D

Which means~ NaNo starts on Saturday! I'm excited :D In preparation I'm going to finish SH chapter 22. Just you watch >O I already wrote a page and a half in my hour and a bit break between classes today at uni. Also, nobody dies in this one, which makes it SO much less of a chore to write. In fact, archers and blade archers have just been idiots. Normal service has resumed <3

GW gallery updated~ with sexy new graphics card shots :D

My lecture this morning was fantastic fun. Virtually no academic content whatsoever, but damn if that isn't the point of the last week of classes XD The lecturer read out a summary of some Star Trek slash. And played with Star Trek figurines under the projector so he could zoom in on the female characters' boobs. And then we watched an episode of Buffy.

'If we ask you [in the test on Wednesday] who X cited to support their argument and when it was written, your answer is, "Fuck off." :D'

And I just got an email from him starting with, 'Good news everyone! You have an in-class test this Wednesday.'

I really wish I'd had him for my tutes, srsly XD;

Yay~ bloogum's no longer playing funny buggers. Fixed within the hour I sent the support ticket note thing <3

Top floor of the library has shiny new monitors, ooh, same size as mine at home =D Now if only they had Photoshop on them, then I could make use of the shiny.

D00d~ next week's the last week before mid-semester break. With any luck I'll have all my uni stuff caught up with by next Friday, so I can have a nice free first week of said break, and not need to think about uni at all in Melbourne.

List of DOOM for the next week and a half:

o 1500 word essay for Screen
.. Highlight and notetake the reading, get the main points figured out, write up an outline and do the essay.

o Make website for Intro to Creative Digital Media
.. Layout in Photoshop, code that up, throw all the content I've currently got at it and set up pages for the content I don't.

o Log book for Art
.. Do the remaining few exercises, print off some digiart to stick in there and yack about, maybe flip through the Foxtel guide and see if there are any biographies on Monet or Renoir or any of them in the next few weeks. I dunno. Throw crap in there.

Mmm doomy. I still don't have a decent layout idea. Arg. I haven't even made new layouts for tpyo and bloogum in, like, a year. HRM.

Got my assignment back today~ =D 74%, which is ONE MARK short of a distinction. ONE MARK. I told my tutor afterwards that it was cruel and unusual punishment :< She said it was ENCOURAGEMENT because I was right on the money but missed one major point. But what I DID say was really good, and apparently there were only 5 people with higher marks than me.

So... yay?

But then we went on to talk about grammar for half the tute, which made me silently scream with inner turmoil because it was all on apostrophes and its/it's and sentence fragments and all this stuff I swear I had perfected by year 6.

Sentence: "Pan's Labyrinth," "Some Movie," and Another Movie were all discussed in Some Bloke's book, "Book title."
Tutor: What's wrong with this sentence?
Me: *OH GOD I FEEL SO PATRONISED* Titles should be italicised~ not quotation marks or underline.
Tutor: Well, italicised or underlined, but as long as you're consistent.
Me: No, italicised. Underline means, 'I want to put this in italics but I don't know how.' =D
Tutor: ...I'll accept underlines as well =D
Me: ... *cries a little inside. I didn't get one of three Desktop Publishing 20s in the state for NOTHING, woman, don't you contradict me on style =P*

I think she hates me now.
