Mmmmmmm summer <3 Well, not technically, pool still hasn't warmed up yet, but still. Heatwave. That means summer.

On Sunday I had my first Sunday off work in a while, so Anna P and I planned a beach trip, cos it's summer now, yasee X) Started doing a bit of work at her house until about 3:30ish then headed off to Sellicks Beach for the afternoon. Woulda been earlier, but... lol 36 degrees. You don't go to the beach in that unless you're completely insane. Or English.

It was STUNNING. The sea was absolutely glassy flat so that literally the only waves reaching the shore were the wakes of speed boats further out. Sellicks is one of the beaches in Adelaide you can drive on and park the car on the sand, so we took Bruce down and drove past all the 4-wheel-drives thinking they were really tough with their big wheels and high clearance. One at least had a boat attached to the back of it.

We managed to score the perfect spot, too. There was a car parked right down on the water's edge with doors and boot open and good music cranked nice and loud X3

The water was. Um. Fresh. Yes, 36 degrees, but it's still the Southern Ocean and it'd only had a day or two of serious heat, so it was still raaather chilly. God, I've never felt like such a sissy getting into the sea before XD; However, with the glassy flatness it meant that the surface down about a foot had been warmed by the sun, so we just floated on our backs staring at the vast expanse of blue above, broken only by the sun. Not even any jet streams.

I bloody love my city, you guys. The water was so clear that, even when we were out deep enough that we couldn't touch the bottom, we could still see ripples in the sand and little pebbles and gorgeous light patterns filtering through the water. God it was brilliant. I love summer. More of that, yes <3 <3 <3

Fish and chips took forEVER, so that kinda ruined our plans of watching the sunset while eating said fish and chips, but we were in proper country town territory by that point. Things move slower out there >> BUT it was the best battered fish I've ever had, and their chips ranked very close to number one, too. Unley Chickens still outranks them, probably because when they say 20 minutes they don't actually mean 45 XD;

I love summer and I love my city. Woulda been nice if we could have had spring, instead of bumbling around 16 for ages, skipping the 20s entirely and rocketing up to 36 overnight, but there you go. SUMMER~ *waves arms around*

Also, Farmer's Union Iced Coffee strong > regular FUIC. Just a note to self =3

Currently at 181 deaths, the fires in Victoria are officially worse than our two formerly worse bushfires ever--Black Friday (1939, 71 deaths) and Ash Wednesday (1983, 75 deaths across SA and Victoria)--put together. Sick, sick bastards who started the things. What kind of person gets enjoyment out of something like that?

The one-day cricket match at the Adelaide Oval today had an appeal to raise money for the Victorian bushfire victims. They had people with buckets collecting money around the ground, all the profit from ticket sales, people ringing up and donating watching the broadcast around the country, $100,000 from Cricket Australia, $25,000 from the SACA (SA cricket), and the players donated their match fees, too.

From the Adelaide Oval alone, with an attendance of around 16,000 people, we raised about $145,000, just from rattling the buckets around the oval. Around the country, $6,023,643. Purely from the cricket match. God knows how much has been raised from other funds and appeals, too.

I love my sport. I love my city. I fucking love my country.

The match was pretty bloody brilliant in itself, too. Eeeee the CHEER when our South Aussie boi went out to bat *^^* Have I mentioned how much I love my city yet? laksjghals
