So remember my issues with getting the nbn connected? And how it took two weeks from 'connection date' to the day I actually got connected? iinet told me they'd credit me for those two weeks I wasn't connected. It was nbnco's fault, not theirs, but presumably they can get something off nbnco for that. Anyway. They totally credited me the entire first month. By golly gee whizz they're a good mob. They've also been lovely to talk to whenever I've called, either for an eta or for the said bill query or whatever.

Tomorrow the boring tree comes out! And I go and buy a lemon and a lime tree to put in its place. And also bunches of succulents. Sunday is Fathers' Day but we're postponing it til next Sunday, because Colin has his brother-in-law's wedding on tomorrow and will probably be plans on being a bit under the weather by Sunday. So idk, might even get everything planted and pretty pebbles in on Sunday. This is probably unlikely, but we can dream.

I've been looking at home/contents/car insurance and called AAMI last night. I talked to a girl called Amy. She's literally Amy from AAMI. This is almost as good as the TAFE guy who I talked to regularly on the phone back when we had that account at work. He could've just been 'Bill from O'Halloran Hill TAFE,' but no. He owned it. He was 'Bill MacGill from O'Halloran Hill.'

I also bought these for my computer, mostly because they're white and I'm all for aesthetics, with my white monitor and keyboard, but also the old ones were starting to go a bit crackly if they went too loud. And by 'too loud' I mean if I was watching a movie with explosions. Webcam remains black, as does the scanner, old monitor, Wacom and printer. Also the new router from iinet. With the exception of webcams that I'm not trusting for quality, none of these things appear to come in white (or, even better, green) but we're getting there.

General life update is go! Thursday was my brother's 29th birthday, but we had the celebration on Friday night because then you can a) not drive home and b) sleep in the next day. Thursday was footy night, where we kicked 28 frigging points omfg. And North still lost. Might've been embarrassing kicking from my boys, but North still lost. I knew they'd be found out. They've only been beating the bottom eight. Come up against a genuine contender and they're screwed. Apart from the woeful goal kicking, my boys played brilliantly, still beat them by over 5 goals (or 28 points and a goal, ahaha). YAY FOOTY.

Friday night, Colin's birthday! Up at Mum and Dad's as per tradition, where Mum did amaaaazing duck four ways that I think Colin's requested for the past three birthdays now, but omfg it is SO GOOD. Beef fillet for main, and salted caramel brownie with home made salted caramel ice cream for dessert. so good I love my mum.

Over Thursday and Friday it'd been pissing with rain, with the forecast being for more of the same over the weekend, so Mum and I decided to forego getting dirt as was the plan. BUT. Saturday morning was sunny! So I suggested doing the dirt to Mum and she agreed with speed that suggested she'd been thinking about it, too. So off we went, rented a trailer and bought some lovely garden bed soil from Crafers. The guys there are so lovely. When he was lowering the scoop into the trailer he held it right down, carefully tipped a tonne of dirt in to make a nice big mound, then used the tractor scoop to pat down the top of the mound. Idk I just find that really cute XD Then we used buckets, filled them up and loaded them into the wheelbarrow to empty into the pallets. Still a fair bit left over, maybe enough for a half wine barrel that I could then plant a lemon tree in, but for the moment it's just in a wheelie bin at Mum and Dad's. This weekend we buy plants 8D

I've also finally been looking at NBN plans, after my street was connected to it, what, two months ago? Probably end up sticking with Internode, even though they seem to be the most expensive (barring Optus and Telstra). I just trust them more, and it makes a big difference them having their head office in Adelaide. All the el cheapo companies don't seem to get much of a rap on Whirlpool. Even though they're like half the cost, they're unreliable and slow, especially in peak time, so I don't want to go with a 12 month contract and live with a year of frustrating internet. HMM.

I've organised to get a quote for fixing Yoshi, so we'll see where that goes. Estimating $2000 but I sure as hell won't be paying it =|

Finally, I think, TV and associated home theatre system which includes bluray player and speakers. The speakers come in white! Which I hardly ever see, especially not for the stand-up ones. Also they're pretty. So that'll be my full entertainment system for about $3500, not bad. Kinda like a Sony telly, too, but I don't know that it's worth the extra money right now. Haven't actually bought them yet, I'd like to first check if Hardly Normal can do any better, or if they've even got the speakers in white at all, but either way I'm getting them tomorrow 8D

Dinner time, then OitNB yaaaaay.

Came back from Sydney thinking 'right, everyone here does this Plurk thing instead of LJ now, I'm going to get onto that.'

I still don't get it. It's just a whole lot of AIM conversations made public. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO SUBSTANCE, SRSLY?

I just don't get social networking, basically. Talking face to face with your friends is just better, and if you dare suggest otherwise then why the crap are they your friends =| LJ is exclusively for the people I don't get to see on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. Everyone else I prefer to TELL them what's been going on in my life, and I'm not exactly the most social person ever. I just don't get it.

So yeah. Not maintaining the rage so much as oh god can't be arsed. Especially when I know that by the time the next meetup comes around they'll have all ditched Plurk for whatever comes along next that also doesn't make sense.

In completely unrelated news, I have a bookcase! It's in the corner there, where the computer and printer and big orange box are in that picci. Computer is now on the bottom shelf, sub sitting on the floor next to it, and the big orange box is up with Mum and Dad in the shed with expressed instructions to not chuck it out cos it's bloody handy for moving my monitor around.

And now I have my books on it! Yay :DD Until now they've been in this cupboard, specifically the one by the window, sort of stacked in two rows that made it tricky to get to the back ones and near impossible to reach the cookbooks, but now they're all on display as books should be :D AND. That cupboard has SPACE in it to STORE SHIT YAY! Bottom two are now used for towels and bed linen, previously stored in the top cupboards so I've had to climb on my bed to get them down and it's all been shoved in and rather inconvenient. But now SPACE~ and I have room on my bookcase for PRETTY THINGS and it's all generally pretty awesome.

Also, public holiday tomorrow :D I quite like having daylight savings starting on a long weekend, gives an extra day to get used to it. Course, doesn't feel like almost-midnight right now, but maybe it will tomorrow night. Unlikely but do I give a shit? Hell no.

SUMMER~ BRING IT ON.

HOLY SHIT THE INTERNET LOADS AGAIN. I can load other pages of LJ outside the flist! I can download Doctor Who! dA doesn't take 20 minutes to load one picture! IT LIVES~ *loves on it* Never say we downloaded 86gigs in a day ever again, cos I swear I'll be around next time to bitch your arse off >(

SO YES. I went up to Mum's and Dad's over the Easter long-long-long weekend*, then took the remaining three days of last week off. Mmm, 10 days off for only 3 days of annual leave, tasty. Good Friday, Mum and I had a Dexter marathon, which finished on Monday, so she's caught up with that now :D We also had pork for dinner, because we're REBELS and pork belly is made of win and awesome, especially when Thai.

Easter Saturday was the traditional Oakbank Races, which my parents and a group of their friends do every year but this was only my second time. The 6am start tended to put me off in previous years >> You have to get up that early so you can drive inside the track and park in the best spot right on the boundary without having to squeeze between the four-wheel drives and Mercs. Tradition goes that each couple/family is in charge of one part of the day's eating--one lot does breakfast of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, another does lunch entree, my parents get lunch mains (barbecued Moroccan salmon, and my watermelon, olive, feta and mint salad this year), then there's dessert and afternoon tea/coffee and a cheese platter.

The five blokes, including Dad, have had a running VOR** competition, which has always been won by one of the guys until an ammendment of the rules two years ago that made it the VODR*** competition. Much fun is had comparing these c1969 bottles of red to vinegar and drain cleaner (ie pour it down the drain cos it's not good for ANYTHING). Dad's was the youngest--only a 1987--but one of the nicest I thought. Quite drinkable indeed =3

Packing up everything into the car at the end of the day, we had the footy on and everyone, including about three other camps around us, bonded over listening to the Power get beaten by the Gold Coast. It was hilarious stuff, you guys. You don't even know.

Easter Sunday Mum put on a feast four the four of us plus Colin's girlfriend and it was beautiful~ X9 We don't really tend to do Easter in my family, apart from a Lindt gold bunny from the Easter Bunny, but I think because I've moved out now, Mum decided any excuse X3

Easter Monday/ANZAC Day, nothing much. Went down to Victor Harbor to have an open inspection of Nanna's house and NOBODY turned up =( So I played Pokémon until my battery ran flat cos I hadn't charged it in about a week. And then Dexter marathon :D Followed by Doctor Who and alksdghlaksj this series will be epic, I can tell. Moffat love <3 Next episode is now downloading because I CAN DO THAT NOW OMFG.

Easter Tuesday... buggered if I know. I think we caught up on Burn Notice or something.

Wednesday was BAROSSA DAY~ <3 <3 You guys know I love the Barossa by now <3 <3 Visited the tried and true favourites of Henschke, Rockfords and Peter Lehmann and 'didn't have time' to do Two Hands. They were charging for it. Wineries that charge for tastings... yeah that's dodgy. But yes. I walked away with 15 bottles from Henschke, 9 from Peter Lehmann and one each of the Rockfords reds on the tasting menu (so another 6 of them, plus a white). They're sitting behind me in boxes at the moment, which will have to change =/ Vast majority of this stuff is for cellaring, so drink-in-ten-years type stuff. I worked out that my time off--three public holidays and three annual leave days--roughly paid for the wine, so that's a nice way of looking at it =3

Thursday came back home and found the internet was still buggered after the previous Wednesday when it had carked it, Friday I spent being pissed off at the internet for being dead but knowing nothing would be done because it was going to rollover today anyway, Saturday I was fed up enough with the net that I gave up and went to Marion. Two stylin' jumpers, two elegant pairs and two feather pairs of earrings and a fluffy scarf later I feel happy.

Also on Saturday night, footy happened )

Sunday, made dinner, yesterday back at work, today still at work, but HAVE INTERNET BACK NOW YES. Life is good :D

* We also got ANZAC Day on Easter Monday, so the Easter Monday public holiday rolled over to Tuesday. FIVE DAY WEEKEND HELL YEAH.

Penicillin is awesome.

Completely unrelated, I've just noticed we only have a day and a half of internet left before rollover, but roughly 20 gigs. QUICK, TELL ME STUFF TO DOWNLOAD.

edit~ So far in the list:

o Ratatouille, the only Pixar movie I haven't seen save Toy Story 3 but that's still in cinemas, and I'm going to bloody see it some time >O

o Grave of the Fireflies and Princess Mononoke because I've somehow gotten through life without having seen them, despite being in two semesters at uni with a lecturer obsessed with Ghibli. Also I'm masochistic, apparently. But that's okay, I'll have Ratatouille to cheer me up. edit Fireflies done, and now I'm never going to feel hungry ever in my life again. If ever there was a movie to make Ratatouille seem hollow D:

o Fight Club, because it's one of those movies that everyone knows about (but doesn't talk about, ohoho *shot*) but I've also never seen. Don't judge me. edit and now I have :D

These four put me up to about 7 gigs. NOT ENOUGH.

this is a rant

All you people who have multiple journal-like things: you're WEIRD.

Ditto for having multiple IM programs, though that's more understandable because some people just Don't Do a particular program. (On that note, I've ditched MSN, but since I talked to all of two people on it, one of whom is also on AIM and the other of whom I catch up with on a weekly-at-least basis in the flesh, I figure nobody's really going to give a stuff o/)

ALSO. Changing usernames is weird (unless you've had stalkers and you're trying to get away from them, that makes sense.)

And don't get me started on cryptic posts, especially the ones with no comments. If you don't want me to know about it, then flock it away from me, seriously. I don't LIKE cryptic posts. Unless you're dead-set certain that I know what the cryptic is about, or you plan on talking to me about it before I see it? DON'T post it where I can see it =/

I'm not getting a Twitter. I don't use Facebook (wtf why do people keep trying to contact me through it...). I don't use Dreamwidth. I don't use Inksome. LiveJournal and AIM, that's it. Don't expect me to keep up with every new online communication thing because I see it as a serious waste of time, especially when everyone I know is on LJ anyway. It's just stupid, you guys =/

My GOD. How do you people on dialup LIVE? I've had a 1meg image downloading for the last five minutes and it's still only half done. Ow. (Our internet has capped, yasee. Once we hit our 40gig for the month, it slows down to dialup speed. COMPLETELY self-inflicted, this time, but STILL. Annoying much. Thankfully the month rolls over at midnight.)

In other news! I have banana cake. You all envy.
