annarti: (WHAAAAAAT?)
Tax return done! This year, I think due to my pay rise back in January, I'm getting about triple back what I normally get. This, plus the aforementioned pay rise itself, almost makes up for the extra $10 a week I'm now paying because they dropped the HECS* threshold. All that research and waiting and shitting myself to get that first pay rise in five years, completely wiped out in one fell swoop. Thanks, ScoMo**.

On the plus side, my back is all but healed and my computer is fixed enough that I can function as normal. Acrobat is one version behind but I reeeeally couldn't give a shit.

* Higher Education Contribution Scheme, now actually called HELP (Higher Education Loan Program) but screw you, it was called HECS when I got it so HECS it shall remain. Prior to last Monday, you didn't have to start paying it back until you were earning at least $55k a year. Last I heard they were dropping that threshold to $50k. It's actually now $43k, so I have to start paying it back.

HOORAY tax return done! Now just to hit the Lodge button and--

... I mean...

The thing did lodge, though. Or at least, I log back in and it says 'Status: Lodged' and 'Outcome: Processing' but after the Census fail, I just. Yeah. GOVERNMENT \m/

Also, it still weirds me out and makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong when it comes to home loan interest. Like, the opportunity for my generation to just buy a house to live in is getting smaller and smaller. Shit is HARD. We don't even have the first homeowner's grant anymore, and on top of that you can't even claim the interest you have to pay on the home loan as a tax deduction.

Unless! You're renting the property out.

I feel like it should be the opposite. If they're trying at all to get people into their own frigging houses, maybe give a little help to people who're at the beginning of their careers, instead of to the people with four properties and plenty of income from them. You have to declare interest you earn from savings in the bank; why can't we claim interest paid on a home loan as a deduction?

Adulting sucks. I just want to keep the money I earn and spend it on stuff I want ._.

So busy lately! Not with big things, just going up to Mum and Dad's for the footy/dinner (SHOWDOWN THRASHING YEAH~ I love the Crows) and having fun with Alex, who is moving to Sydney in, like, two weeks, so we're doing as much as we can before she heads off. I've been introducing her to Avatar. We've just met Toph 8DD Also saw Brave which I loved, went to lunch, had dinner, various things. Friday we'll prolly go see another movie. Or more Avatar, whatever works.

Soooo yes. My days have been full. Which of course means I want to write SO BADLY. I have IDEAS, MAN, but this is the first time I've been able to sit down at the computer since, what, last Thursday? Ish? Yeah. And all that time has been spent catching up on the interwebs of those intervening days. Sure as hell no writing time. Tomorrow night I get a bit of me-time tho, so we'll see if I can write then.

Work is hectic. I feel like I almost get a bit of breathing space and then three new things that need two hours' attention each jump on me in the space of ten minutes. Or I start doing something that should take ten minutes, like proofing a re-order of a business card that's only changed the phone number since last time, and I get that many phone calls and front counter people and production asking questions and salesmen poking me and urgent emails that I forget what I was doing and the damn drop-and-go proof takes an hour and a half. I'd be a wreck if we didn't have the new chick doing TAFE jobs. SO AWESOME.

Also, got one group certificate today! I have two this year because of the change of ownership in February, so as soon as I get the group certificate from accountant!boss, then I can do my tax and get monies back. Mmm. Monies.

BED TIME.

BACKPAY *rolls in it* Group certificate (hah I remembered the name of it) should be in my hot little hands by the end of the week, then I'll have all the things I need to do tax return and I get MORE MONEY which should have already been mine but isn't.

Meanwhile, the video part of the lemony lamb is encoding :D This takes for sodding ever. An hour to export a 5 minute video, it reckons. And before anyone asks how big this thing is going to be, it's using the Youtube SD Widescreen preset, so shouldn't be too big at all. Just working from massive files, I guess.

I gave up on the html. People with IE can just upgrade already.

Thiiiiiings.

Tax lodged, wooooo government owes me money o/ First year I haven't gotten all my tax back tho, so that's annoying. Apparently I still don't actually earn enough to start paying off my HECS debt. That's... somewhat depressing.

Yay~ government's going to give me my money back. Really shoulda done this thing months ago, but eh. Such is life.
